AC sloshing-crinkle sound

So I have tried searching as best as I can here on the site, and couldn't find an existing thread describing a similar sound.

I just purchased a 2011 SR5 with 101k on it. First 4Runner but have had toyotas for a while. When the AC runs for atleast 30 minutes or so, you can hear a sloshing type sound when turning. The sound is louder when turning left than right but it makes it both directions. There is also a crinkle type sound with it. The best way I could describe it is it sounds like a garbage bag full of water rolling around, or water sloshing and tyvec flapping at the same time.

Everything functions correctly, just not sure if this sound is normal, or if water if being held somewhere inside the dash. Thanks guys.

Possible but I had a crinkling sound at one point for vents, check your cabin filter for debris.

There’s an AC drain line that runs from the unit behind the dash to outside the car. If that gets clogged, and you have condensation building up from the AC running, it will collect and sound just like what you’re describing.

You should be able to locate the drain coming through the firewall on the passenger side of the car and try poking something through there to loosen the clog. I probably wouldn’t use compressed air though as that could blow all sort of crap back into the AC condenser.

So I got a pipe cleaner about 5ish inches inside the tube and then I couldn't get it to go any farther and didn't want to poke a hole in anything. The first 3/8" came out pretty brown so hopefully it loosens something up in there.

If it was plugged up, water should have come out along with whatever was gunked up in there.

Did you have the metal elbow piece in the drain or was it just the rubber nipple on the firewall? I had this issue in my 4th gen and jammed a metal rod in the thing and moved it back and forth until "stuff" came out.

Just the rubber nipple that comes through the firewall. Should i be pushong something more substantial through it than a pipe cleaner?

Yeah I'd try something with the ability to push through the clog.

Thanks for the tip. Tried poking around and some dark brown debris chunks fell out. Will test tomorrow to see if that solved the issue.
