2022 TRD PRO - Nitto's vibration at highway speeds "HELP"
I have owned several 3rd and 5th Gen 4runners. They have performed well in all conditions including highway driving.
This is my first TRD PRO.
At highway speeds there is a noticeable vibration (between 55 and 80).
It now has 2000 miles on it and the vibration has been consistent.
I took it back to the dealer last week and they said the tires needed to be balanced, which they did at no charge.......that has not solved the vibration.
When I called them today to ask them to revisit this problem......I started to here excuses......"well the TRD PRO has off road tires", "you can't expect a smooth ride".
It's going back next wed --- the service manager will drive it.
My question is-------- are there any other TRD PRO drivers out there that have had a similar situation.
I realize the Nitto's have a more aggressive tread ---- but the highway vibration
is a bit of an overhang. I do put a lot of highway miles on getting to and from the trails etc.
Any feedback would be helpful. If my expectation are way off "straight talk " is welcome???
BTW I love this thing!!!!!

Had a similar issue with my new 22 ORP. It had 100 miles on it, so I went to Discount Tire and purchased some new Toyo AT3's. DT couldn't get them to balance right. They ordered a new set, still had a steering wheel shake at 50-70mph. Eventually went with Cooper Rugged Treks and it fixed the problem. I guess it depends on what type of vibration you have. I had steering wheel shimmer at higher speeds.

What pressure are they at and are you carrying anything heavy?
If my terra grapplers are below 34 they get vibration around 55-60. If we have stuff loaded for a trip, it’s 35. I usually chalk test the cold tires after loading to get where I need to. The tire pressure fixed a lot of my issues. That is assuming they are balanced.

My gapplers get a bit of a flat spot when its cooler that goes away after a few minutes of driving at speed.
Could that be it?

I had that just fixed on my 1 year set of Ridge Grapplers. After unsuccessful rebalancing few times I rotated them and noticed shaking moved to the back and I already knew it was right side. After narrowing down to bad tire I took it in for another balance. Ask specifically for Road Force Balance. Don't mention where you think bad tire is. Let them confirm it. Sure enough Right Rear even balanced perfectly is out of round with high spot. Next day I had a brand new tire and no more shake at any speed. GL with yours.

Take the tires to get them RoadForce balanced. Roadforce balancers will give a number that basically describes how out-of-round the tire is. Ask the tire tech for these numbers. Tell them to put the tires with the highest numbers on the rear and lowest numbers on the front. For the front, under 10 is great, 10-20 is acceptable, but anything over 20 on the front is probably going to still make your steering wheel shimmy.
There have been a few instances of Toyota having to outright replace a vehicle due to steering shimmy, but 99.9999% of 4Runner steering shimmy can be fixed with a Roadforce balance.

It's definitely a balance issue. I've had similar symptoms with multiple brands of tires all being resolved by good balancing. On a side note I had a terrible issue with some Ridge Grapplers that never would balance so I gave up on them.
All that being said I've had mixed luck with Road Force balancing. I believe it has more to do with the operator than the machine itself.
Maybe find someone in your area who's having good luck with a specific shop? I have better luck at off road shops.
And also just a note that the bigger and heavier the tire the harder they are to balance and the more significant the symptoms are.

Thanks man---
I really don't want to swap out tires...... (unless I have to) - so I did bring it back to the dealer.
They did a road force balance today. I was not able to test drive it on the highway. They did say that 2 tires were slightly out of balance and that it was corrected.....I will know if the problem is solved this weekend when I get it up on the highway.

I hope that works out, typically steering wheel shake is a balancing issue, or at least it was for me when I went to brand new Cooper Rugged Trek A/Ts. The pulling issue if you have one, was an alignment deal. But, Discount Tire did road force balancing and that fixed my 50-65mph steering wheel shake, not some much of vibration issue. Good Luck and keep us posted!

There are a bunch of threads on this. Like, many. Things I have read:
- Tiers go flat when parked and it takes a while to smooth out. I have a 2019 Pro w the stock nittos that still does this.
- Need a better balance. Road force balance often appears to be the solution.
- One of the tires is bad and needs to be replaced.
- Multiple tires are bad.
There is one thread in the last few weeks by someone that knew someone that had found a mechanical problem, but I can't find it.

I have the same tire on my 2022 SR5, Off Road Premium. They are very smoothe with no vibration. I had a vibration problem with Goodyear tires on my old 4 Runner Trail. If the dealer does not have a Road Force machine I would take it to a shop that has a RF machine.

I got rid of those tires on my Pro. Mine is a weekender, not my DD. I do believe tires can get a flat spot, the more it gets driven the less I notice it. That said went with stock size K02’s and two of them were bad, now smooth as can be. So you can get tires that are bad, hard to balance, whatever but I believe that flat spot is a real thing as well.

The dealer (Bristol Toyota - in Mass) does have road force balancing..I am bit confused why they did not use it for the first visit? When I brought it back they did road force balance all tires, and said they were slightly off and re-balanced all 4 tires.......I have not had time to test drive it yet. I plan to do that this weekend and will report back
