Off Axis Tweeter Response From Dash

I'm in the tuning phase for my new 2 way active front stage and wondered what kind of success you guys have had from tweets in the stock dash. I haven't done any RTA/REW work yet, going to borrow a friend's AF UMI-1 next week, but my initial "tuning" (if you could even call it that) leaves much to be desired. I mean it isn't bad by any means, I prefer it over a buddy's passive Morel Maximo Ultras in the stock locations, but I just know there's more performance to be had.

I was hoping I didn't have to fiberglass some tweeter pods to get my current tweets to really shine. Has anyone had luck getting good response from the stock dash? If so, would you mind sharing what target curve you had success with (harman/jbl/crutch/etc), speakers, xover points, etc?

My current setup:
SB21RDCN tweets crossed at 2k 24db LR
SB17MFC35 mids 80-2k 24db LR

Your title (off axis) suggests you want to change the direction of the sound from the dash speakers. Not needed since the dash speakers bounce the sound off the windshield. And since the windshield is sloped, the sound gets directed into the passenger compartment.

The dash speakers, even the JBL speakers, have poor upper end frequency response.

Your best bet to increase the performance of the dash speakers is to replace them. I replaced all my speakers with those from OEM Audio Plus. The highs are much crisper, and the low frequency is better. They are also more efficient (sound volume for power input), so they are a bit louder, thus you nay not need to add a power amplifier. They also have a much higher power handling rating; the OEM speakers are prone to blowing out.

Honestly what I did is replaced the dash with 3.5 inch. Running full active With the ability of putting in bigger speaker in the dash you can go wideband and have an amazing sound stage.

Great tip! I probably should've done a bit more research before buying the SB21RDCN's (which on paper were a solid choice since I can cross them over at 2k with supposed better off axis response than the SB29s). I wish I had it in my budget to splurge on some AF GS25s/HAT L2SEs/CDT Unity 8.0s... maybe I'll give the AP 220-CPs a try so I have something to compare my SB21 with. I really love the midbass from the SB17, maybe a wideband paired with them would open up a ton of possibilities. Thanks @crawlingjunk

I'm running wideband at the stock "tweet" location. The GS25s actually, but their top end leaves a bit to be desired.. though I'm getting older and can't really hear anything above 15K anyways.

Maybe try the Morel CCWR254 ($189) or the CDT Unity 8.0 Plus ($159) or CDT ES-02A ($89)

Thanks for the input and suggestions, I forgot about the CDT ES... it doesn't hurt that they're on sale right now too! I guess it's time for me to tinker.

Same, the biggest improvement I saw was upgrading to 3.5 full range speakers, really enhances the sound stage
