Fair Selling Price For My 2010 TE
Guys I’m thinking of selling my 2010 Trail and would like an idea of a fair selling price . The details:
2010 Trail purchased new by me . Black in color.
Just under 80k miles . Yeah we didn’t drive it very far for work.
In Florida it’s entire life, never in snow.
All stock except black TRD rims with stock size KO2’s.
Never off-road. Mall cruiser
Always garaged at home and at work.
No wrecks
Navigation with JBL Sound System
KDSS, moonroof, sliding cargo tray
Always kept waxed so paint shines .
Needs nothing .
Probably gonna go with a GX460 if I do sell .
Thanks in advance.

My advice:
You decide what it is worth to you.
Ask Carvana for a price, all on-line - this will get you a baseline.
Take it to Carmax - ask them for a price.
If one of the offers it more than you thought - decision time.
List it private sale for a bit more than the offers?
Check out autotrader, your region, your specs (as close as you can get). Actual sale prices on autotrader maybe lower than advertised prices - so remember that.

I got bids from both companies above, they were low - low end of dealer trade in, then at the visit they did a crazy detailed inspection. It was not my 4Runner, but another vehicle. It looked and ran like new. The talked me to death, then decided on an $800 dollar discount from the quote. They went down to 500 after a long while.
I think private party is a nuisance, but probably way better. Especially for a 4Runner. -- I'm keeping my old 2013 Trail for a few more years.

When I bought my 4th gen I was seeing 2010s in the 15k-$20k range. I could be way off on this but this was just the few I saw!

I feel like Carvana and Carmax only want the new stuff. We just sold both of our 2019 Toyotas and they came in with ridiculous offers that were super high.
We were messing around and thought we’d get some quotes on our new ones, 2012 and 2007 and they were low.

Carvana is in trouble and banned in a few states for not providing tittles. I'd stay away from them. Since COVID all vehicle prices are crazy. I'd wait a few years if you can until things settle down.

We are in the market but in no rush, will trade in our 2017 audi but need to find something we like. 2022 tundra or another crewcab, 23 sequoia or next gen 4runner. The 17 4runner will stay around for years to come.

While a dealer would typically consider something the age of your 4Runner as an auction car if they took a trade in, given the market, and the condition of your rig, they might offer you considerably more than you think.
I recently had Carmax appraise my 2007 FJ Cruiser, which I am selling, and got a ridiculous low bid from them. It was under blue book. KBB is pretty accurate on valuing vehicles, and most people will take a KBB value as gospel, so just putting in your info at KBB.com, being honest in your appraisal of its condition, and listing it privately near the KBB private sale value will likely work out well for you. The difficulty will be that most banks will not give a loan to buyers looking for a vehicle over 7 years old, which may limit you to cash buyers, and since we are not dealing with a 5K dollar car here, it does limit your buyer pool to a rather niche market - likely adults with a unique set of interests and money enough to fuel that hobby.
Best of luck!

I watched a Youtube video a while back where a guy took several cars to Carmax just to see what they would offer; and compared that to KBB numbers. Carmax was low everytime.

I would buy your 4Runner right now for $15k-$20k if it passed my inspection.

$15k?! That's a lowball offer in this market. I think $20k is low in this market.

No shit. But let’s see a cash buyer offer much more than $20k. I’ve got the same car, would love to see $25k back if I had to sell, but that might take some time and effort. Wouldn’t your best bet be a trade-in at the Lexus dealer on the right day?
