Sooo.. Is it time for a Land Cruiser??
I absolutely love my 5th Gen, but the family is growing beyond what I can currently seat without 3 rows. And even with 3 rows in a 4runner, those tiny backseats just won't cut it..
Soo.. I'm trying to read up on the 100 and 200 series LandCruisers and LX470/570 twins as I give my truck a solid detail to get her ready to sell..
I'm curious if anyone here has Back to back experience between the two platforms.
How much work am I going to have to put into the bigger platform to end up with a truck just as capable as my current 4runner (lifted 3 inches TRD-Pro on 33's with a decent amount of armor)..
How much of a liability offroad is that bigger wheelbase and overhang?
Are there PIA limitations to stuffing bigger tires under those vehicles? Do things bigger than 33's mean body mount chops, or hours banging over pinch welds/seams?
Any information/thoughts/expereinces shared will be greatly appreciated!

I once regretted not getting a Land Cruiser. After actually sitting in an LX570, I no longer regret it.
The mysterious cluster of 4 button blanks below the Start button, regardless of trim? Yeah those are all features* in the LX570.
* mid generation one button was removed (moved) as the feature was relocated to the panel left of the steering column.
The Land Cruiser and the LX570 2-row sat almost exactly $90k when new. Now having driven both, I highly respect the Land Cruiser and it’s unique positioning as a Toyota, but feel like I’d get so much more in the LX570.
If you go back to a 2015 LX570, the driving experience is damn near perfect. A big, square, easy to judge BOX of a vehicle, with a low belt line (tall windows combined with high roof is just bliss).

TRD pro Sequoias look really sweet. Also Entune 3.0 has CarPlay, neither 2021 Land Cruiser nor 2021 LX570 do.
There is a kit to retrofit CarPlay to an LC200 but not LX570.
I would not touch an LX600 with a 10 foot pole. Turbo V6’s in a full size do not excite me.

I haven't really looked into Sequoias, My fear is that they become just a little too big for actual off-roading, as they are a few inches wider than the LC/LX.. (I personally think the Land Cruisers are quite big for trails around me, NW Washington State, but a family of 6 trumps my desire for a smaller truck..)
I don't see a lot of dedicated support for those sequoias beyond lift-kits for strip malls either. From what I saw, there is actually quite a lot of differences between the Sequoia and Tundra that means a lot of the locking diffs for Tundras don't fit in the sequoias. (10.5 vs 10" diff,,, totally different housings... stuff like that..)
Maybe I need to do some more searching....

I'm grappling with the same decision, though not to replace my 4runner but to replace the POS infiniti that we have. Spoiler, never buy an infiniti.
I would love the brand new LC but not sold in the US
I am also considering the sequia. The new ones are just gorgeous, I just don't know how they fare on the trails, size, and function.

Have you sat in a Land Cruiser or LX? My father-in-law was looking at LX's recently and we spent some time in a 2020. I loved the LX, but if you're buying it for the third row you may be disappointed. There really is not much space back there and when the seats are up there is next to no cargo space. Third row SUV's are a conundrum - it's crazy hard to get good interior space without monstrous exterior dimensions (or going unibody).

The 3rd row in any SUV is terrible.
Even in a Yukon XL. I've had one. If you need 3 rows get an Odyssey or a Sequoia or lease a Pacifica.

FWIW, the lc200 is not any bigger inside. If you're tight in the 4r you'll be tight in the LC. The LC actually has less cargo volume.
Either Sequoia or Highlander if you need more room in a Toyota.
I bought a Tundra CrewMax in similar need for more room. But I only need 4 seats. Plus dog and gear.

this is generally what I see as well. if you want the 3 row SUV, cargo space + offroad capability of a 4runner, I don't think that exists.
a sequoia can certainly be built to handle some offroading, but how intense of offroading do you need? rock crawling, moab, or just some weekend fun?
you're going to have to give up something to get that extra space and larger third row seat. the sequoia is probably a good combination of cargo space, 3rd row and offroad ability but it's not the best in either of those. a suburban or something similar will be the best in cargo space but not real good offroad, comparatively
I don't think the LC will be big enough for you, the LX is a damn beauty and is capable off the lot with the offroad goodies it has but you still might find it small if you're completely out of room in the 4runner
honestly, make a list of the top 5, in order, of requirements for your new vehicle. cross the last 2 items off the list and go buy/test drive the vehicles that meet your top 3. either way you're going to have to give up something here

Exactly, but keep in mind he's out of room in the 4runner because he has 6 people to tote around, not just cargo space. He needs the third row no matter how small it is or how much it cuts out cargo volume. He's putting kids back there, not adults. he could also put 3 kids in the middle like he is now and one in the back while keeping a 3rd seat down. It'll be a tight fit, but if he wants capability it's what it's going to be. That's what roofracks, cargo boxes, and hitch racks are for.
I can't think of a vehicle out there that will match an LC in capability off the lot with 3 rows. The Sequoia is there as you said, but it's not an LC and it's huge compared to the LC. Maybe a modified previous Gen Tahoe before they went IRS, but Chevy. And that's a big maybe.

I had a G wagon AMG for abit awhile ago. I always wanted a nice LX570, now I think its better to keep two Runners and have a nice G wagon as the around town car, but maybe not AMG version, odd to say but other than when I took on a corvette on the highway, the AMG extra power wasnt really needed. To bad the new LC has twin turbo 6, seems wrong for the class.
