Gas cap cover with cab lock

Hi,

Is there an after market gas tank cap cover with the locking cable inside the cab similar to some 4 runners that I could fit to my 2017 4 runner or can I buy and fit the cable and cover from earlier or later covers which are fitted by toyota?

I haven't heard of this either on 4Runners; but there were past threads about locking fuel caps causing a P0457 code because they didn't seal well. I haven't seen any mention of this for quite some time though.

The 2nd ,3rd and 4th gen 4Runners had the inside gas door levers but was discontinued on the 5th gen.

It was a kind of a big deal in 2009 when they came out missing and probably a cost cutting measure. Now ,hardly anyone notices or complains!

I see no way to retrofit one to a 5th gen and best bet is to just get a locking gas cap.

The only cable on my 17 SR5 connects the cap to the cover.

I must be losing my mind as I don't remember that being a feature of my 4th gen.

Anyway, why bother with a locking gas door or gas cap when the fuel tank is plastic and hangs down below the frame rails? Not like it takes a rocket scientist to poke a hole in there and drain your gas. Also, the anti-siphon elements in the fuel filler neck are a pretty effective deterrent.

Remember, they saw off catalytic converters now...you're wasting your time.

Wasting my time for buying a $12 gas cap that locks? It's served me well for 5 years, so yeah

I think he's talking about the lever that's under the steering column next to the hood release. It's a cable that goes back to the filler door covering the gas cap. You have to pull the lever to open the door to get to the cap. My old '91 Camry had that but it also had the anti-siphon element in there as well. I assume the gas tanks are still made that way.

I'd hate to think that someone would destroy a gas tank to get at the gasoline, plus endangering their lives by just letting that gas flow uncontrolled. But there are people like that in this world; sad..

But why? There is an anti-siphon device inside the filler neck. It's like standard equipment on any vehicle made in the last 2 decades.

Chris! All 5th gen 4Runner owners want to know, what locking gas cap did you get that doesn't throw a code? If there is one, would get it in a heartbeat.

And Baldrick, it's not so much siphoning am worried about, but on the rare occasion someone wants to contaminate my fuel it would be nice to have peace of mind knowing that it's not that simple for someone to put a bag of m&m's in my tank.
