Trade in value dealer ripoff lowball offer !
Toyota dealer offered me $35,550 for my 2020 4R TRD ORP
W/KDSS, sunroof running boards, TRD wheels, Nautical blue with only 14,500 mi in perfect condition, garage kept. They had a gray 2019 on lot with 31K and want $47,997, when I told them that they said that one is certified and went through the shop. I told them mine was just inspected by them and had Toyota care service done. They said that is the Auction price for mine, I got up and walked out, they keep calling me but I won't answer or respond to emails. Screw them !
They also showed me a paper with what is costs them to certify and pay for advertising and sit on lot for 30 days. I told them that was just a sales tactic to get trade ins for less money.

Assuming your 4runner is in average condition for age and mileage, yours is worth $39k wholesale. That does not take into account KDSS, running boards and your wheels (which all add value of course). I don't know where they're getting their "auction " price from, but mine is MMR. I would say $40k trade would be fair for you. They'd sell it for ~$45k.

Dealers are in business to make money. They will try and maximize their profits. Some are looking to make a higher percentage than others. Do your due diligence.

If they keep calling you back, file a harassment complaint with the BBB and your state's consumer protection department.

LOL! Everyone thinking that the party of outrageous prices for used vehicles will go on forever.
Someone is going to hold the bag when the music stops: hint it’s not going to be the dealers.

Every time they call back, raise your minimum selling price by $1000.00. They'll get the message quickly enough. Enjoy the game. Don't become frustrated by it.

Their expenses are not your problem. They hope you are like most and uneducated about car prices and shady dealer practices.

had same conversation at dealership not long ago. told them i will think about it. got home and start digging into used market. compared prices and decided that convenience i get not dealing with a-holes coming to me and b-s me is what i get for that price. drove to dealership with bank check, handle them keys, remount license plates on new 4runner and went home.

Seems like a fair dealer price to buy yours, but a 19 for 47+ is a little high. They have overhead and costs to certify whether or not you believe it.
Just sell it you self and make a lot more $$$. Good choice switching to a 19 over the 20.

Dealers
In the last 20 years I haven't gone through a new car negotiation without heading for the door at least once. They always lowball trades hoping you are either dumb or so excited about a new car that you don't question it. They can always go higher. Of course you can always get more selling on your own but you have to figure the aggravation factor and in the last state I lived in there was an implied warranty even on private sales. If for some reason the car didn't pass inspection the seller had to refund or repair.
Just know the dealer is a professional at separating you from every last penny they can scrounge.
As far as I'm concerned there is no such thing as a sin against a car dealer.

And the music is slowing down dramatically. Auction lots are now full and dealers are holding inventory that they paid way too much for. Carvana is expected to report abysmal earnings tomorrow which lead many to believe bankruptcy is imminent.
Anyone looking to sell/trade a used vehicle best do it ASAP....
