Easy mod: Gentex HomeLink mirror from a Subaru

I've never been a fan of the factory overhead HomeLink being constantly powered on. I had a HomeLink mirror from our last Forrester sitting around and was going to put it in our GS350 but decided to put it in the 4R instead. This mirror is switched to only turn on with ignition (drawing from the factory dimming mirror power). I searched the forum and didn't see a detailed write up, so here's a simple DIY install for those wanting to go this route.

These can be had for around $75

The blue wire is the switched 12v ignition and white is ground in the 18 ORP

Bought this wire from bobsmirrors.com which included the plug needed. Unsure if the Limiteds have dimming side mirrors, but if they do, you can specify this when ordering the plug.

Ended up cutting off the factory 5pin connector as we intend on keeping this 4R, but it's up to you how to wire it up. I left enough on the factory harness to wire it back up if we decide to return to stock. Success.
