4Runner ECM/ECU Pinouts and Questions
Hi folks,
I have a 2016 4Runner and I'm toying with the idea of a VW or BMW diesel swap as the Hilux and other actual foreign Toyota diesels are hard find, bloody expensive if found, and parts are virtually nonexistent stateside. I grabbed the FSM from the link on here, but I think I'll order the paper version as wiring diagrams aren't easily found on that PDF. From what info I could see it appears that all the 4Runner body/engine/transmission/a-trac/windows/doors/abs/blahblahblah data is housed in a single physical electronic module? I was hoping some of you more knowledgeable folks could tell me if this is a correct assumption, as I would have to figure out how to pass data over the CANBUS from the new engine to the ECM/TCM/BCM modules (or ECU is what I think Toyota calls it) so that the gauge cluster, and most importantly the factory A750F transmission could work.
For now this is background research... don't bookmark this thread yet - but if I find out it's possible and actually get some progress in the next year or two I'll post up a build thread. The physical stuff isn't a problem - it's the electronics, which will be a PITA.
