I came across this in Tacoma World where user samjpatt used some climbing chalk bags as additional drink holders. See here:
Tool-less, 32oz cupholder mod | Tacoma World
The specific chalk bags are made by a lovely small company called Static Climbing Co. Taylor (
▲STΛTIC Climbing) is the owner and she has worked with the Tacoma community to develop some custom options for drinks and our use. My personal experience was extremely pleasant with great customer service, high quality and hand made bags. If you want the mods make sure you email her first.
The mods I chose were thinner loops, nylon liner, small brush loop, standard size and mirrored.
Here is the mod list below for the cupholders:
MODS....
2 single thinner loops (100% mod people choose)
swap out the fleece for a nylon liner (the most popular mod other than the thin loops)
smaller brush loop / or / no brush loop at all (the side loop that is sized down slightly to fit a sharpie or pen)
standard size (fits a 32/40oz Hydroflask) / or / smaller size (fits a normal water bottle) / or / XL (fits a 64oz hydroflask)
Standard / or / mirrored (If ordering 2) (have the pen loop face the same side so they mirror when installed)
Patch on the front(normal) / or / the back or leave it off the bag (only applies to bags with patches on them)
Remove the drawstring and grommet / or / keep the grommet and drawstring
They really do not get in the way, although it's possible depending on the cup/bottle could slightly tough your leg depending on how you drive and your calf size.
Love the look and utility... Installation is super easy. Just pull up the trim straight up in the back right, then back left and then the front. I used a 5/16" wooden dowel with multiple wraps of electrical tape so the loops wouldn't slide off. Just rest the dowel in there and press the trim back down. Trim doesn't bulge at all and there is a natural spot for them on both sides.
