Getting a BMC done early

So I'm eventually going to go to wider wheels or spacers and a lift. Naturally this also means bigger tires. Am I crazy to just get a BMC done now even though it might be a year or so before any of the other mods. I'm thinking about just getting it out of the way. Any cons to this idea?

Nope, no con’s if done correctly.

Good way to keep vehicle mods bite-sized.

None if you plan on sticking with 33s or 34s, but if you decide you want 35s later then you'd have to either get an aggressive chop or a cab relocation mount plus a bunch of other stuff to get them to fit. 33" tires are great size tire for our platform that minimally impact drivability and strain on our steering and drivetrain components.

@CRasch505 go for the body mount relocate right off the bat.

I've done 1 mild bmc, 1 aggressive bmc, and finally sad f'it and did the relocate. don't be like me.

Is there any downside to the relocate? I'm hesitant with stuff like this because I worry I'll go way overboard with something I won't need. However, if its not a risky task or something that will cost huge money, I'm open to the relocate for sure.

in all reality, a bmc should be all you need unless you want to run 35s.

relocate could have the same downside as bmc, depending on the way you approach a bmc.

some kits cut the rounded front side of the bell and weld a flat plate over to get a little (1/2"ish?) extra clearance (1st pic)

some kits cut off substantially more of the bell on the outside of the body mount itself (2nd pic), which would create a similar downside as the relocate.
that is there's more potential for the wheel to be directed back toward the cab rather than deflected outward in a head-on collision. I can't say whether this is a real concern or not, but i can see how it could be.

3rd pic of relocate for reference, the entire body mount is cut off a replaced with a kit that is welded further back on the frame.

Awesome info! I don't ever intend to run 35's so it sounds like a BMC might be the route. There's supposed to be a local shop that does great work on Toyota offroaders. I'll call them up.

Update: I called a local specialty shop that came highly recommended. They quoted me $350 for a BMC, plates, pinch weld mod, and fender liner push. Dropping her off Monday morning to get it all done! Thank you for everyone's help!
