This is a question that will get subjective answers.
Factors include - examples:
Battery quality at time of putting in service - even new cars may get batteries months old.
Driving style - how frequent do you drive and do you drive enough to offset the engine start drain, and other drains
Climate - park outside in Florida, no big deal. Park outside in North Dakota - maybe an issue. Summer in ND maybe kinder to a battery than a Florida summer.
In my 2013 FJ Cruiser (bought new in May 2103) my OEM Panasonic lasted until early 2021 (26k miles). I did not drive it much during the Covid fiasco. My other vehicle 2013 BMW 535i, bought new in August 2012, I changed the battery this past week (28k miles) - big 65lb 105AH thing.
So, your mileage will vary.
Edit: add details

I traded in my 2010 4R (which I bought new) in 2019 with 130,000 + miles & it still had the original battery in it. I have never gotten 9.5 years out of a battery in any vehicle until that point.

NOCO jumpers are great. I have a GB40 in my 4R and got it on Amazon during black Friday for I think $65. Well worth the security. Still haven't used it on the 4R yet, but have multiple times on my lawn mower and once on my ATV. I also have an EFI Generac generator that HAS to have the battery full. If I forget to trickle charge it and the power goes out I have backup power to jump it with it. It can charge your phone and everything too if necessary. It's a great thing to have and comes with a car charger too in case you need to charge it back up off grid or something.

Mine is 7 years old on one of my Limited's. That said I use terminal cleaner on it alot, run a trickle charger on it to keep it maxed. Cycle test it routinely for CCA. I also keep it garaged and out of extreme heat or cold.

Just bought a red top, like me, for my ‘13 Limited. Battery went out when the starter failed.

Timely post. My 2016 has the original battery and I'm about to roll over 70k miles. My 4Runner is garage kept which I think helps. That said, my wife's MINI battery lasted only 4 or 5 years also being garage kept. I think the start stop tech was pretty hard on batteries, though.

Battery life is not a mileage thing. Life is determined by cycles, heat, prolonged drawdowns. In general, they’re good for about 5 years. These are not $20K Replacement Tesla batteries. When in doubt, proactive replacement is best.

Batteries need to be exercised. Boat/RV deep cycle/starting batteries are warrantied for one year. I found I was replacing batteries about every year and a half. I have an onboard charger so I put a timer on the plug to start morning and afternoon for a half hour each time, to simulate driving to/from work. Two batteries bought in 2017, one in 2019 and all are going strong
If your vehicle sits for long periods you should put a battery tender on it to monitor the charge and prevent sulfating.

And for those of you that think only idiots can hook jumper cables up backwards, try jump starting another truck after 24 hours in the seat snow plowing. Yes, anyone can hook them up backwards. At least with most jump boxes, they won't function if they're hooked up backwards.

I have to respectfully disagree that getting rid of perfectly functional jumper cables is a good idea. Years back when I was running a very popular valet team at an airport, I can't tell you the amount of times jumper cables saved us - as I'm sure they do hundreds of thousands each year. The benefit of them highly outweighs the possible issues you may have using them. If someone can't match 2 colors up then maybe they shouldn't be jumping a car to begin with.

I'm in my mid-60's and have (probably) been working on cars and boats since well before you were born. Yes, I can tell the difference between black and white. And yes, I've jumped hundreds of cars, trucks, boats and other vehicles. I only hooked cables up backwards once - after 24 hours in the seat during a big snowstorm. Does that make me an idiot? Nope, just damned tired. If I'd used my jump box (which wasn't in my plow truck), nothing would have happened.
Getting back to my original reason to no longer use jumper cables, a good friend of mine who works on cars for a living fried his ECM a number of years ago jumping a dead car with a serious electrical issue. Even hooked up correctly, the jumper cables helped kill his ECM. That's why we both use GB70 jump boxes these days. They're a lot cheaper than his ECM was.
