Damaged Rear Lower Link Mounts

Well I think I finally figured out what was causing the noise in my rear when I fully flexed out my rear suspension. After repeated rock strikes it looks like my rear lower link mounts are pretty beat up on both sides.





It is the one area I didn’t armor up which in retrospect was a mistake. It also appears that these mounts tend to get like this just from repeated full flexing of the rear suspension off road.

What have been your experiences fixing this? I think the short term play is to bend the mounts back the best I can and throw some skids on there. Long term I may cut the original mounts off and weld newer beefier ones in.

I think @eimkeith makes a solution for this that is a weld on bracket reinforcement.

I think you have a good plan. Straighten, then reinforce with RCI or other similar type skids. It might not be a bad idea to tack weld the skid to the frame in a few spots once bolted on just for extra beef

Yeah I ended up doing the same to mine and bending the trailing arms also so ended up replacing those. I used the Metal Tech lower link skids and they've worked well. Although they don't look to cover as well as those emkeith do.

I currently have some bolt on skids(dont remember which company) and I've hit those several times in Moab. But I plan on upgrading to this in the near future. Need to fix my front LCA first...

Yep, one of the first things to get destroyed in the rocks. Pull the arms out and use BFH and large crescent wrench to bend things back straight-ish and add the armor of your choice

That is for sure the plan for now.

However, just from my research and going back under the truck I don't know if this is 100% from rock strikes. It does appear that the mounts also get like this from repeated full articulation of the suspension. To be fair we are exceeding stock specifications with extended shocks and increased axle weight from larger tires. Either way I may have to cut them out and replace them with something a little beefier if my initial fix doesn't work. Will update the thread as needed
