Supercharger (procharger specifically) questions...

Hola.

I've never had any intention of going forced induction mainly because I couldnt justify the price (the procharger kits in Canada hover around $10k). I recently purchased a BNIB D1SC kit from a private sale for a huge discount, but now I'm in uncharted territory as I've never boosted anything before. I'm mechanically inclined and have pulled engines before, but the supercharger is not in my wheel house.

Have some questions for anyone that can help:
* fuel pumps - procharger says you can use the OEM one, but I'd prefer to have and not need. Is there a popular fuel pump people go with for our rigs when SC'ing? I saw the URD upgrade kit which comes with a bigger pump and a filter relocation kit. The kit seems super appealing mainly because of the ease one can replace the fuel pump filter
Anyone have opinions/experience with that one?

Any suggestions on others? I see that the walbro 190 is a preferred upgrade for the 5V engines, but they're not compatible with our 5th gens unless I read that incorrectly.

* widebands. What's a solid brand out there for the 5th gens? Are the universal ones really universal or are there fitment issues? Do you go with weld or no weld?

Any other bits of advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

A typical go-to pump is a walbro 255, but you need to find the one that fits, and the fuel basket will need to be modded(not drop in). I think the URD kit has the basket premodded or at least tells you how to do it.

For Wideband I like AEM or innovate, and you should weld the bung in to do it properly. There will be no "premade" kit for 5th gen, or really any car in general, so yes you will need to use a universal wideband kit.

URD carries some pump upgrades but not sure for the Runner. I'd get an upgraded valvebody from IPT. Widebands are universal. You would have to get the bung welded onto the exhaust.

As I understand the model, the ultimate goal is to avoid detonation. One method for avoiding detonation is to prevent the leaning out of the fuel mixture while under boost (more air than fuel).

The fuel map on the T4r ECU controls the mixture. Some vendors of superchargers will add a piggy back to the ECU and others modify the ECU itself to account for the additional boost.

Unless you modify the map you probably don't need a bigger pump. Any excess pressure/ fuel is just returned to the tank.

I do believe the T4r's ECU has some ability to modify itself (hence the arguments regarding fuel grade). I am not sure if it will self modify a supercharger upgrade.

Best of Luck!

Oh you just bought the head unit. Yeah you're going to need everything else in the kit which I'm not sure Procharger will sell separately unless you are replacing parts.

Adding forced induction to any NA car will definitely require ecu tuning. If that kit does not come with it he will definitely need to find that as well. If this kit requires a fuel pump like URD it will also most likely need an injector upgrade too.

I bought a kit, 1TK212-SC1. It comes with the head unit, larger injectors, brackets, some sort of device for data logging/loading tunes, etc. Odd how the procharger kit doesn't come with a larger fuel pump nor colder spark plugs.

From my understanding of things, I'm going to install the wideband, fuel pump kit (upgraded kit which makes it easier to change the filter), injectors, relocate battery, and then the head unit.

After that, I'm supposed to do some data logging with a device provided in the kit -some sort of baseline logging. I send Procharger that file and then they send me a tune which assumingly events out high/low spots.

I'm taking it to a tuner afterwards anyway for peace of mind. I want the procharger tune because I reckon the procharger tune is a good baseline/skeleton for my tuner to start with.

I hope this is right lol
