I notice that the hinge has a function to lock when the arm is open and also (seemingly) when it is closed.

If this is true, then I suppose the small cam lever is intended to assist in holding the arm in place while closed and to reduce rattle, but the lion share of the effort to actually keep the arm closed during vehicle movement will fall to the hinge catch, correct?

Is there any way to LOCK that arm in the closed position via a pin, etc. holding either the hinge catch or the other cam lever in place, or is one even necessary? I guess I want to be sure that thing can't get underway without permission and at an inopportune time.

Thanks again!
The T-handle on the spindle will lock it open and shut as you have mentioned. This is more of the backup to the primary piece, the 2nd, and 3rd images.

The design uses this handle (picture below) to lock and keep the arm shut and secure. There should be zero movements or rattling.

Hopefully, this helped answer your question. Or if you already reached out to Saker, Thanks!

Best to measure your mounting depth and just give SSO a call!

Shorter hitch?

Hello, I was just on your website looking at this hitch tire carrier. Here in the post you said you have made the hitch shorter as to not be a knee buster. On your web site it still shows the original pictures wither the longer hitch. Before I make the decision to purchase, is the hitch 100% shorter as shown in the pictures you posted here?

@Fireq14,

First off, I was responding to someone's post because I own one of the original Tire Carriers made.

I do not have a website.

You need to direct your question to SSO.

I have no business affiliation to SSO.

Here is the link of the original carrier made by ctnewman. There are photos in this link of others T4Rs.
SSO acquired the files from CT and built it as per original design as I remember..

I made my own hitch mount spare tire carrier
