Good news....bad news

The good news is that I picked up my brand new, shiny, solar octane TRD PRO today. I had been on a list at my dealership since January 22nd! I absolutely love it. Traded in my 2019 Voodoo blue PRO. Good dealership experience. I purchased my 2019 PRO at the same dealership. Got the new PRO at MSRP and got a good trade value of only $3800 less than I paid them for my 2019 PRO, over three years ago. The bad news??? Apparently, my vehicle was facing rearward on the truck on its trip up from the port of NY. There are approximately 12 paint chips on the rear hatch. Arghhhhhhh!!! Sales manager was very apologetic and said I didn't have to take delivery and they could order me another. Ugh. I can't wait another 6 months. He also said that they have a Toyota certified collision repair center at another of their locations and will repaint the rear hatch and make it as good as new. He promised it would be fixed to my complete satisfaction and it would be perfect. It sounded good and what was I gonna do?? I took the truck and will wait for an appointment to drop it off. They will give me a loaner while it's being painted. I feel confidant they will do right by me and do a quality job. It's just killing me that my brand new vehicle will have paint work. Has anyone here dealt with a similar situation? If so, how did it turn out?

It needs to be repainted regardless. So I'd have them do it, and if it's not to your satisfaction have them trade for another one or order another one. I don't think they're in as short of supply as they were earlier in the year.

Make sure you look at it very closely in the sun, so as to determine if the paint match is spot on.

FWIW, historically quite a few vehicles are damaged in shipment, and repaired before a customer ever sees it.

I had to have some spots on my roof fixed recently---after Safelite f-ed up a window replacement (like 4K worth of damage)---a certified Toyota Collision shop removed a couple dents, repainted parts of the roof and did some internal welding of the window frame. Looks like it never happened.

Yes. I think that probably happens a lot. People aren't aware of body work done when a vehicle is damaged in transit. At least they were very honest about it and are pledging to make it perfect.

After I purchased my Pro in 2018 off the showroom floor I noticed tons of swirls in the black paint. I went to my local car wash where I use to get my black 3rd gen clay barred twice a year. They said they could not fix most of it and that the newer clear coats are very thin. I wanted to get rid of it.
I took it to a Ceramic Pro dealer and they did a full paint correction and polish and it came out fantastic. Better than any black 4Runner I saw.
It cost me $1300 and I was able to get Toyota to pay $500 towards the work. It has held up great for four years and looks better than new after a wash.
Consider this your first ding or scratch. Unfortunately, more to come. I would recommend ceramic coating.
Good luck with the repaint. Nice color. I wouldn’t wait 6 months either.

Yeah, the first ding or scratch always hurts. Just sucks when it's right off the showroom floor. I think they'll do a good repair job. Is what it is.

I would be concerned with a proper color match.

That BLOWS!!!!

take the loaner, and tell em to give you a 2022 Land Cruiser...you already know they are backed up...drive that LC over the winter, then they can give you your brand new rig come winter or spring of 2023...

that's what i would do. I aint driving around in no Camry while waiting on your chosen steed that THEY damaged.

My only concern would that it would be documented on CarFax or something. As some have said I'm sure this happens more frequently than we think. Unfortunately, you drew the short straw this time. I'd have them just paint it and make sure they keep it off the record. If you go to sell it later nobody is the wiser and I'm sure their body shop would do a good job.

what size paint chips are we talking about here. tiny ones you can barely see or deep ones right down to bare metal? if it were me and they were very minor I'd use the paint pen and touch them up and ask for a price reduction or something. I find the toyota pens to work very well on my blizzard pearl

deep gouges? ya that sucks and a suppose a repaint makes sense then

Have them document that it will be done at no cost and to your complete satisfaction. If I got that statement in writing, I would have no problem letting the dealership fix the issue.

It is amazing to me what these dealerships do to the paint of a car in their showroom, every time I looked at the cars in the show room I would cringe at all the swirl marks. Clearly whatever kid they're paying minimum wage does not care how much damage he's doing when he wipes them down, it's ridiculous

Yep and none of it is reported to the buyer or a vehicle reporting service. All legal and happens quite often.
