Shift cable lube issues?

I have a 2010 Limited with about 90k miles on it. Twice recently after coming back from long vacations (2+ weeks - the truck sat unused), I have had issues moving the shifter and also had CEL and 4LO lights come on. Once, it even slipped out of gear while driving. Both times I took it to my trusted mechanic and he lubed the shift cable to fix it. Seems odd to me though. Any thoughts from the collective?

neutral safety switch? I had similar issues earlier this year. hard putting it into and out of gear. then CEL and 4x4 and I believe 4LO lights came on flashing while driving. replaced the switch and all is fine after running the CEL code to verify

Thoughts are you should scan the codes that are causing your error lights.

I have a 2011 TE with 120k on ODO. Until recently it was my second vehicle and sat for 2-6 weeks at a time without even starting it.

I've never had this issue.

I'd say completely replace the cable instead of lubing it.

When I let my vehicle sit for 2 weeks or so, I find mice has nested in the engine bay and chewed up some wires. Just throwing it out there FWIW.
