Question Need to replace glove box latch and lock

I was returning home from a 2 day road trip cross country and realized that I couldn't unlock my glove box. I put a few things in there and locked it up.

While my wife was driving, I ended up breaking the latch. I can open the box now by pushing in on the release with my finger. I destroyed the lock.

I ordered the latch and replacement lock, but couldn't see how the latch is removed. Thinking it is held in with plastic tabs?

Thimking I can figure it out once I get the new latch, but hoping someone here has done the replacement already.

Unlike previous gens, ithe latch is not part of the door but sits off to the left side. Google has not turned up anything as did the search function.

Anybody here that had to replace the latch or lock on their 5th gen??

I did find this but I do not know how to remove it

So I have 3 new parts. The latch, the cylinder lock/keys and the plastic surround that goes in front of the cylinder and holds it in place.

I can see the tabs that hold the plastic surround in and thus the cylinder.

The latch may need to be pulled forward some way to release it. No obvious tabs to hold it in place other than 4 molded holes in the back that may go over protrusions.

It is the latch / lock that is broken. Thinking I may have to remove the glove box to see how it is attached from the back.

Ok, had to remove the glove box. The latch is held on with 2 self tapping screws from the back of the glove box. A PITA for a simple latch replacement. The lock itself can be removed from the front once the lock cover is taken off. Another engineering marvel.

That is all.
