I guess I'm disappointed by all the results people have posted. I have a TRD PRO with the TRD exhaust, which I do like, and I figured that the exhaust, combined with the CAI, has to produce a better airflow and some increase in either power or MPG. I guess not.

It doesn't. Its all marketing. Plus, all of our stock boxes are cold air intakes these days.

No you're right, it does produce better airflow and increases in power and/or MPG, but even 10-15hp at the crank and/or 1-2mpg increases aren't life changing increases and may not even be noticeable. As others have stated, we've already got stock CAI's, if you don't switch to a high flow filter then all you're doing is removing some baffles. I think it sounds a little better. Get it if you want a little better sound and a cooler looking box, but keep the expectations realistic.

Couldn't I just achieve most of the benefit from just keeping the stock air box and switching to a high flow filter? Is anyone concerned that a high flow filter won't actually "filter" as well? Like I had posted, I saw a comparison that showed how much more airflow the K&N filter allowed but that it was, by far, the worst at filtering out particulates. I don't think there's any magic formula. To increase airflow, you've got to give up some filtering power. No?

Yes, probably. I don't know what percentage of the increases are due to the elimination of baffles and larger tube compared to the higher flowing filter but there should still be benefit to just doing the filter. As for the concern for filtering, if i'm doing dirt road or dusty area driving i'd throw the fram back in, but for everyday city/highway driving i'm fine with what the k&n or equivalent (AEM in my case) will provide.

You’ll save money by not doing anything because none of it will give you more power or better MPGs.
