Warmer LED Headlights

Hi All

Most of the new LED lights for cars are in the bright white 6000k + color range. Does anyone make a warmer 5,000k - 4,000k color LED for car headlights? If so, can someone recommend a good brand?

Thanks.

LED specifically will limit your color choices, typically starting at 6000K and going bluer from there.

Much in the same way you can’t really get halogens over 4300K without artificially influencing the color with tinted lenses or bulbs. At that point you’re actually LOSING light output because the tint is simply FILTERING light and not adding brightness.

5000K, while the purest typing-paper white, is largely unachievable with most, if not all halogen and LED offerings. This space has only consistently been served with HID bulbs (xenon type D1S/D1R through D4S).

Think early Toyota Prius, Sienna, Avalon HIDs. These were beautiful colors:

LEDs typically in the 4-5000k range have filters or films to make them yellower, reducing output. Same goes for halogens above about 4000k - they have filters to make them bluer, reducing output.

Great information in this post, I was just looking for this information for another vehicle I have that I am considering LED headlight bulbs for.

One question for you all is how is Holley/Morimoto doing it with their 3000k led headlight offering?

If you have factory LEDs, you cannot change them.

Warm color temps are very common in commercial applications. Probably no demand for warm temps in cars...

not sure the lumen output on the headlights...
BUT I use a custom 2700K led that puts out about 6000 lumens using 50 watts. We use these in sanctuary applications to replace 500 watt quartz halogens.

I’m interested to know, too. Morimoto has had some quality issues with primary headlight housings (XB) judging by a few threads on here. I have been told the same goes for their projector lens fogs. The TIR fogs with the multiple bulbs are said to be much better.

If there is a true yellow 3000K fog, it’s actually a yellow LED chip vs a white LED chip. Unfortunately there is no “pale yellow” or “warm white” chip. If you really want LED with a warm cast you might have to go 6000k and put a yellow LaminX film over the lens.

Well it seems they are out there but they are hard to find. According to this video Should you choose LED or HID Bulbs? Everything you need to know! - YouTube The reason 6000k colors are the most common is because they are cheaper to make. To make them warmer they have to ad more coatings to make it warmer. There apparently are lower color chips available too but are more expensive because they are not made in large numbers at the moment.

So far I found these.

These are dual yellow/white LEDs that you can choose what color you want.

The OEM LED headlights are 5000k color temp. I specifically have the LED low beam only model and you simply de-pin and swap the connector and you're set. (Mine was reverse polarity, ie. negative went to positive)

The headlights tested are my very own

Those are some very pricey LED bulbs $647??? No thanks.

Plus I’m looking for a dual low/high beam LED bulb. My current set up is the driving lights are both low and high and the high beams are projectors. So when I hit the high beams all 4 lights go bright. It’s like having a light bar.
