What Oil Would You Never Use!
I’ve seen the list of peoples favorite oil but what oil would you never use?
By the way how do you create a poll for this forum?

I'd use anything. Recently I ran Kirkland just because I needed oil and it was available.

Wouldn't use any non brand name Oil.
Not a fan of Valvoline or Pennzoil ether. But that's not to say I wouldn't use them, I just wouldn't run them long.

Well my buddy use to stop at 7-11 and use re-used motor oil that was sold under some brand label called like NUgold or similar. Was basically recycled scrap oil, with no certifications..but hey its cheap right? My buddy figured because he was a pharmacist he knew everything he needed to know on oil and I was an idiot for using expensive Redline when no name scrap oil..even in the wrong weight..is more than good enough. So anyhow one day on the way to the track for Porsche race day he stopped and put I think like 3 Liters in the motor, it was down quite abit.. so fast forward an hour or so..im sitting on the back straight grilling a burger on the portable grill..along comes Kyle in his race tuned 968...drifting perfectly at high speed through a nice banked corner... then pop!! Motor exploded..rods went south.. punched holes in the pan.. and that was that..968 completely ****ing done. A new crate motor was like $35K at the time, i was like hey man what oil you gonna use this time?
BTW.... he also tried to pour the oil into the windshield washer fluid reservoir.. blue lid means oil right?!!
Good times.... and the burger tasted fine.

I don’t mean to offend your friend, but, it sounds like a case of more money than brains.

Never? What do we mean by never? Not even in an emergency?
Putting the emergency question aside and going on the assumption that it’s just time for my next oil change, and that my preferred oil is unavailable and my 4Runner is just going to have to hold its nose until the following oil change: in choosing what I would settle for, I would insist on the proper viscosity of 0W20 or 5W20, per the manual. If neither were available I would put off the oil change until the proper viscosity was available. Then I’d concern myself with the ILSAC or API service grade. The manual specifies ILSAC GF-6a, but I’d use GF-5 or GF-4 as well if it were the only thing available. As far as the brand is concerned, I’m not that fussed. I’m not racing. I’m changing my oil frequently. Amsoil, Redline, and the other glamor oils are unnecessary.
I would eschew all other options.

What do we all think of
- Redline
- Molygen
- Mobil1
- BG (as in BG44K, they also sell oil)
- Lucas (same as above, known for treatments but also sells oil)

Its ok, years later he turned into a sex offender, so hes not a friend anymore. Even after the motor let go it was everything else other than oil... even when the tech broke down the old motor...said it was oil issues... still wasnt the oil though. No talking to some people, just a waste of time.

Can you give a little more insight as to why?
