The Adventures and Build of my Wife’s 2017 4Runner!

Hello all!

My name is Nathan, and I have a 2007 4th gen! This thread isn’t about my silver fox though, it’s about my wife’s new(to us) 2017 Limited!

A little about it, she’s a 2017 with a a little over 120k miles on it. Nautical Blue Metallic with a beige interior! We went to the dealership to test drive Lexus RX350s and ended up test driving this runner. We were amazed at how much more solid it felt than the RXs. It had one previous owner and was very well taken care of, so we decided to pull the trigger! While I preferred the 4WD SR5 that was next to it, a sunroof, leather and heated seats are a must for my wife. So we brought it home! Even with the higher miles, these things still are not cheap!

This thread will serve as an adventure and build diary! We plan to take this on many adventures as we have with my 2007 and hopefully put as many miles on it as possible. The build will be slow, but there will be many adventures! Enjoy and thanks for checking out our thread!

Loading up before a rainy weekend adventure!

Cabin in the woods deep in the Ouchita National Forest. Had to pass some sketchy dirt roads to get here, the 4Runner did great!

Good catch!

We scored a 2019 SR5 Premium with only 17K miles just before the price increase madness on used cars.

Great find! I hope you enjoy your Limited as much as we do ours. Also, nice 4th gen!

Not the best way to start the new year, but I suppose it could be worse!

Took my wife to work in her runner this morning and noticed white marks on the side. After close inspection, found that it appears to be paint! Not sure where/when it happened, but it is dry. It comes off when scraping it with the fingernail, but it will not wash off/scrub off. Hopefully I can find a detailer who can remove it, otherwise I’ll be making an insurance claim! The wheel wells took the worst of it, and some of it got on the sides/running boards. Anyone had this issue before?

Oh man, that's terrible. Time to break out the clay bar!

Yes sir, it sure seems that way! I’m thinking the plastic fender liners might need to just be replaced. They took must of the brunt of it!

Does the clay bar method actually work?

Started the DIY repair project today on the splattered paint.

I used a combination of a clay bar kit, bug and tar remover, and some serious elbow grease. Afterwards I did two coats of wax on the affected areas.

Here are some before pics

And 5 hours later - the after!

All paint removed from the doors, painted inner fenders, and rear bumper.

The inner fenders will be replaced, I’m unable to get it off the plastic in there. I left it on the rocker panel as we’ve decided to do the limited rocker panel swap. We are going to swap a set of SR5/trail rockers and a set of an Nfab steps! Hopefully I’ll get em ordered by the end of the week!

Detail day!

After getting all the dirt off, found some more white paint specs on the rear hatch. At least now I know how to get them off!

Hopefully tomorrow I’ll be getting all the parts ordered to start the process in removing the limited steps and rocker panels and replacing with something better

Looking great. Just yesterday a guy parked in front of me and backed over a can of fluorescent lime green marking paint that fell out of his van . Can exploded and splattered my hood, grill, bumper and a spec or 2 on the fenders. It’s a pearl white Limited . All I had on me was 2 microfiber towels and some wd40. It took it all off. I rinsed and waxed it when I got home. Sounds like your paint may be that heavy duty traffic paint but maybe worth a try on the plastic parts.

Ouch! Glad to hear you got it off though.

Yeah, the clay bar worked well on the painted parts. I’ll probably use WD-40 on the fender liners though.

I’m definitely a little more paranoid on the roads now. I cringe every time I see white spatters on the road
