long time 3rd gen owner moving up

so i have had some good 3rd gens, one that was a pos. I no longer have a garage to work in to take care of the old 3rd gen and shops are $$$ and usually months out. My current 3rd gen is great..but having issues...recently rear main seal...no its not valve covers... I am not rich..i am retired...
i wont touch a 4th gen. are the early 5th gens good and reliable ( limited budget). so what to avoid ? up here everything sells for nuts....so would most likely get one in the lower 48 and drive up here.
thanks

i moved up from a '93 3rd gen (to a '95 FJ80) to a '00 3rd gen... moving up to a '16 5th gen... it's fancier, but still has it's roots in 4runner heritage.

i'd wager you like the switch from a functional standpoint, though it is not as "basic and simple."

here's a video laying out the 5th gen line... all basically the same.
