How about leave the 4runner at home and tow something lighter that is not specifically prohibited from doing so (per the manual)?

I have a PTS and in accessory, it shuts off after 20 minutes. I would double check that the steering wheel lock also does not re-engage after the radio shuts down.

4800 lbs is a tad heavy for a toad but not crazy. the new Class C E450 has some legit towing capacity and gcvw. they put a 7000 lb hitch on there. I really could care less what the bean counters at toyota put in their manual. It can be done no issue. I ran my 7.3 excursion and F350 on waste vegetable for 300k miles combined and both still run today No issues with injectors etc. I am not afraid to do stuff if its done correctly.

After 30 mins he checked, times out, steering wheel locked.

Now off to how to over ride the ACC when I do this.

I am already planning on a switch to to kill power to the ADD so I could add another relay that could keep ACC power on using the same switch.

I was going to see if AOB would make me a "Tow Mode" switch.

When I tow this thing hit the switch and it kills power to the ADD, then I can put the transfer case in Nuetral with out it locking the front.

Wiring diagrams here I come.

did a quick search and there is a thread in the 5th gen forum about keeping the ACC on indefinitely.
Is there any way to make accessory stay on longer?

Folks are saying if you kill the rig in neutral then push the button without foot on brake it will keep the acc on indefinitely.

So this maybe my solution. got my buddy testing this for me now.

Start truck put on P-Brake - put in neutral - kill truck - hit push to start with out foot on brake. Put back in park. set timer and see what happens in 30 mins.

If you keep it in ACC mode while towing won’t there be concerns with battery drain? I suppose maybe just parasitic draw

So when I do this I am going to add a 7 pin under the front airdam. This will be used to tie into the 4runner lights. Following this guys tutorial.
Toad/Dinghy Wiring - RV Headlights

So I will make sure I run a line from the 7 pin hot to the battery to help keep it charged but with everything off its gonna be so minimal.

So plan is just to leave it in nuetral now as we know that works I really dont have to put it in park as with the transfer case in neutral it does not really matter what its in.

Any flat tow updates yet? My 2023 doesn't appear to have a steering lock at all so that's good. There is a easy disconnecting rear driveshaft that would solve the other issue. One guy on youtube is leaving his case in 2H and trans in N, others have said case N and trans P with the driveshaft disconnect like a jeep.

I don't know if it has been mentioned before on this thread, but the 4Runner has an oil pump in the transfer case. I believe it is driven by the input shaft. If the transfer case is in neutral, the oil pump doesn't work, and if the output shafts (front or rear) are driven, damage will result. My owners manual specifically says not to dinghy tow (four wheels on the ground). Period.
