just a very slight bend of the hard condenser line to keep from resting against winch. did this by hand and did not need to remove anything.

One more vote for the Warn EVO series 10K. I had to relocate the control pack and bend the condenser line a tad but it was straight forward. It has gotten extensive use.

One word of warning though, they are currently under a safety recall. The wireless remote can get water in it and short out causing all sorts of problem. They should have replacement remotes out soon though.

anybody have a hitch mounted winch that you can remove when not in use? Im still trying to find a new front bumper for limited, but have seen the warn and others with hitch mounted options. What you guys think about hitch in the rear?

2 problems with hitch mounted rear winch: wiring would be a pain to run, and most times you need the winch in front to pull you forward through whatever your obstacle is.

wiring looks like two options, one hardwire along side of underneath of frame, or just use the longer battery leads and run on the outside of truck to the battery from the rear.

For the gauge of wire needed to carry that amperage over that distance, the size/weight will literally be like carrying a copper filled garden hose. you would have to run it along the frame as you dont want to be dragging it while winching yourself out.

it still may not be helpful as it's most likely going to be facing the wrong direction as you would typically pull yourself forward through an obstacle.

I went with the warn 10-s platinum for 1 reason, and that is not needing to reach into the bumper to release the clutch. I originally had it in my C4 lo pro and is now in my CBI full width bumper. I had a warn 10-s on my Jeep and it worked great. The platinum has better/stronger gears, but the main selling point for me was the clutchless design. The only downfall of this winch is the $2k price tag

Winch options for 5th Gen

One more question on winches - looking for something not manufactured in China, where the Warn Evo line appears to be made. Happy to pay some premium for on sourced and made in the USA. Sherpa winches are Australian, which is almost as good. Any recommendations? One of the joys of modifying the 4Runner is sending business to local fabricators, like Hefty, RCI and Gobi. As much as I can, I’d like to keep purchases in America.

WARN Zeon Platinum 10-S for me.
Wireless 'waterproof' remote
Made in the USA.

Works great the several times I've used it.

actually not ironic...while many westerners group Asian cultures together, many are very different from and quite opposed to China. (not saying you don't know this.... you were probably just making a light hearted comment)

My mother is from Taiwan and I have many relatives in Japan (Nippon) and they all despise China with a passion. My mother makes a concerted effort to not purchase anything made in China, which is near impossible.

Warn Platinum - I'm happy with mine.

Red Winch makes theirs in Great Britain. The price will make the Warn Platinum feel like more of a bargain.
