I don't think this is the case, I had them on a explorer years ago and performed very low dust. Didn't keep the vehicle to confirm the life span.
All I know is they are better in every way than the ProAct, also more expensive, not by much thou.
Edit: I just rembered 1 drawback, pedal feel. With the ProAct the pedal felt very firm, with the performance pads you would lose some of that firmness, so you would have a bit of soft brake pedal but more initial bite.
