I feel the same about the new fangled electronic stuff. But then again, I’m a senior and old school off roader. Nowadays my off roading is limited to my seasonal hunting trails near the house. But all of them involve Class 4 and some Class 5 trails.
I have an ‘18 SR5, so my electronic aids basically boil down to A-Trac and the downhill (forget it’s acronym label - far right button on the overhead console). I’ve used the A-Track numerous times as a quasi locker and it works. When I get on a trail I know that it will help, I engage it when I engage low range and leave it on. I don’t wait until I’m spinning or stuck. In my former ‘02 Tacoma TRD I did the same with the rear locker - engage it early and leave it engaged.
I don’t like the downhill control. Too much noise and drama. I just keep my transmission locked in first gear and go against compression and use the brakes when necessary.
