Radio auto volume control

The radio in my Chevy truck gets louder as I increase speed to compensate for road noise. I thought the AVC in my 2022 Toyota would do the same. The dealer said that the AVC does not increase the volume on the radio but it does something to cut down on engine noise. This sounds like BS to me. Can anyone tell me if their volume gets louder as road noise increases?

ASL (Automatic Sound Leveling) w. JBL infotainment systems will increase the volume based on driving conditions.

or

It could also be a bad Rotary Encoder.

Yes, there is ASL. Please use the manual, they give it to you for a reason. Or, take 2 mins and find your sound settings (mid/bass/fade/etc..) and you will see ASL setting.

Some very late model sports cars do use the vehicle’s sound system to enhance engine sound. Some sport oriented EV vehicles also simulate a gas engine with their sound system. Your dealer or salesman is confused.

When I test drove my ‘18 SR5 with navigation, I was told by the sales kid that I had to use my phone to see the maps. Then I found that my truck was delivered without the SD card with the mapset.

I disdain sales people, especially young ones that chatter endlessly when all I want is to drive the thing and let the vehicle talk to me. I’ve already done my homework and only want to test drive the vehicle and determine if its the one for me.

Just my .02. If you're more of an audio purist, you probably don't want to use ASL. While it does do some volume level scaling based on speed, to me it sounds like it does most of its compensation in the form of dynamic range compression/expansion. Ie. make the quieter spots in a song louder and the louder areas a little quieter before doing the actual level adjustment. The '21 manual seems to confirm both types of compensation by saying it adjusts both "volume and *tone quality*". (emphasis mine).

Best to try it on/off for an extended period of time to see which mode you prefer.
