"Good-bye Odyssey Extreme 35-PC 1400!"

Hello A-Team,

It's been a while since posting a New thread here; but I think it is a valued decision right now..., and much thanks to "@Louisiana Overland" for his insightful/thoughtful questions & perspective on this subject in his recent thread!

My L.E.'s "35-PC1400 Odyssey Extreme" is 8 yrs old now, and showing signs of poor storage capacity when using accessories...e.g. two 1200W Mono-Block Sub amps, LEDs, HID's, auto-HVAC system, wipers...etc! So I'm looking to replace the battery with an "ODX-AGM-34R-1500" 850 CCA (135 min reserve)... don't need my voltage sagging when accessories are running!

I ordered the new:"ODX-AGM-34R-1500T, 850 CCA (135 min reserve)" (from Amazon) on Saturday, and it arrived on Wednesday 2/15/23; "And I'm THRILLED!" I really had NO IDEA how depleted this 8 year old battery was; [installed on 5/29/15]. It always started w/o any trouble... cranking was slightly slower during the Summer, but that was a sign to me that it may be time to think about getting it replaced!

But last month, when I cranked-up the Subs, (letting my rage out ), I noticed that the "Tell-tale volt meter" on the instrument-cluster was swinging back and forth! I plugged in my 12V cigarette lighter voltage tester, and it was swinging from 14.50 to 12.85V and back; ...and you know that ain't right...

So it was time; I've NEVER had a battery that lasted for eight yrs, and giving me such "Trouble-free" Service across time! So I could justify the cost w/FREE S&H, was $367.79 (+ tx) $391.79! And this "Odyssey "ODX-AGM-34R-1500T" has a lil' more reserve cap than the Odyssey Extreme AGM 35 PC-1400! Here are the manufacturer's details below should-ya wanna make an AGM swap:

ODX-AGM34R (34R-PC1500T) ODYSSEY Extreme Series Battery | ODYSSEY(R) Battery

Now: NO MORE "Tell-tale combination cluster swing; current/voltage is "STABLE"; as it should be, based on state-of-battery charge, outdoor temperature (14.59V-14.70V), and operating accessories...etc! For questions, hit me back here; or if a lil' discretion is needed, you can shoot me a PM... I hope it's fixed; I wasn't getting my msg's for more than a year...Lol; if not, I'll shoot you an email address!

~rig~ Cheers!

Hi lewdog998,

Well, first, I'm running a 270-XP Alternator since 4/2015! Then, to bring the voltage up to 14.55V, I'm using the $15.00 Chevy diode on ebay! It went up from 14.00V to 14.64V (just over 1/2 Volts last yr); before I replaced the old AGM Odyssey Extreme Battery.

Now the alternator rests@ 14.50V; depending on accessory load, ambient temp, Battery reserve storage cap... Works GREAT!

~rig~ Best!

I replaced my old Optima with the same battery about 6 months ago and was very impressed with the difference and improvement with the newer Odyssey, definitely happy with the new one

My recommendation is Just a moment... , its safe to click, I dont know why it says "just a moment"

I had the Northstar version (I think they are the same company) for 10 years!

I had Northstar for 7 years in my 5th gen, preventively replaced it with X2 (same maker sold by Batteries Plus), Northstar sat for a year on garage bench (fully charged) and now it is in my 2004 4th gen because it cranks the starter better than 3 year old Autozone AGM equivalent. Where I'm going with this is that not all AGMs made as well as Nortsthar/X2/Odysey. Just pay extra $100 and watch it last for a decade.

P.S. Arclight voltage booster @ mid 14.25 volt setting

Hi DannyLlama,

...until he gets back to you, I think he's mentioning that he now uses one of these (Triple-State Voltage Boosters) See link below:

"...Seems like a very good product to me...!"

"Boost" or the mid setting will give you ideal for AGM battery voltage of around 14.25-14.65 volts.

Thanks for posting this @rigtec ! I swapped out my OEM battery to an Odyssey AGM and didn't realize that a voltage booster was required. ArchLight didn't have any instock so I went with VoltageBoosterPro

Hi MTBChris,

Are you happy with the "VoltageBoosterPro" and if so, what was the cost; I figure I'll make it easier for some other members to have the optional choice that you had(?)! I went with the: "Chevy/GM voltage boosting Diode" from ebay or Amazon for about $12 bucks, FREE S&H and arrived in about 5 days; works great (14.64V @curb-side idle (depending on ambient temp, accessory load(s), reserve capacity...etc)! But it works GREAT!

~rig~ Best to you!

Its a pretty solid design, retains the 7.5 fuse as well. Doesn't have the 3 settings like the ArchLight does but at low setting I was getting around 14.2 and 14.5-14.8 on the high setting. Its priced at $85, $4 flat rate shipping from the VoltageBoosterPro website. Gonna run it through its paces at the low and high setting, but for now its working great

just over a year ago I did the Odyssey 24F, didn't do the voltage booster initially but worked well for a bit. Now it wont hold its voltage for very long, goes from 12.7 to 12.5 overnight, even with the voltage booster now.

Thinking of going back to stock since I had no issues with the stock battery. Thought the AGM would help with my Sub amps, LEDs, HID's but I guess not. Cant even go camping for more than 2 days now without an almost dead battery. With stock I could go weeks.
