Question New suspension questions

Hello gentlemen. I have a 2015 4Runner trail premium . I’m at 105,000 and it’s time for new suspension and I have no idea what to go with. Mostly street driving with some beach driving during the summer months. Iv looked at the fox and Bilsteins. I don’t know what to go with. Also if I’m buying front and rear shocks do I also get new coils/ springs ? What else do I need as far as a new suspension kit . I knew to buying a suspension I need help like I’m a child. Any advice would be much appreciated. Thank you !

Take a look through this YT channel:
Tinkerer's Adventure - YouTube

IMO you want something with rubber bushings, not spherical bearings/rod ends.

Do you need springs? Probably not but it depends on what your goals are and how you will achieve them (lift and load).

99% on road for me

I checked out a few of the videos and they're helpful. A common set up for a leveled looked and firmer ride is the 6112 bilsteins up front (600lb springs)and the 5100 or 5160 in the rear. 5100s all around are another option if not needing reservoir shocks.

I am looking to replace my rear shocks since one of the 5160s started leaking. I have about 55-60k plus miles on them after 5-6 years. This set up was purchased during the TRD pro clearance sale . It was a good buy and I love the ride feel and look. Im debating between the 5100 or 5160 with reservoir shocks. Same shocks but one has the reservoir and I will probably never need it .

other option is the fox 2.0s

I would recommend the 5100's. basically a 5160 without the leaky reservoir problems. They are also digressive to match your current 6112 fronts. Fox dampening will not be digressive, but not sure how much of a difference you would feel between front and back not matching valving.

that is the smarter purchase and would save about $275-300, dont think I'd see much difference b/w the two. The toyota trd pro set has a smaller reservoir compared to the current 5160.

This. The spherical bearings on my King shocks are definitely the weakest link in my suspension. I'm at about 100k miles with those shocks and I'm on my third set of bearings on all four corners. I also removed a panhard bar with spherical bearings and went back to stock (+ the Dr. KDSS panhard correction kit).

I went through this same decision a year ago with 5100s, 6112s, or Fox 2.0. I settled on the Fox 2.0 for a few reasons.

1: Seeing as you are in the Northeast the aluminum bodies and rubber bushings will help with corrosion from the road salt. This was the game changer for me.
2: Fox is rebuildable
3: You can get them in snap ring shocks and use your OE springs or opt for the prebuilt ones with nice 600lb springs. I felt paying for them to be built was kinda silly and brought the 5100/Fox snap ring cost closer to the already built Fox.
4:Fox 2.0s are a great shock with a very positive reputation across a lot of vehicles.
5: I wanted the level look and Fox was set at 2" already ready to bolt in.
6: Linear (Fox) vs. digressive (bilstein) valving. Linear valving is better all around. I offroad some and nothing to warrant anything more than these, but I wanted to still get my monies worth when I do go offroad.

Bilstein does make a great shock and I think bang for the buck the 5100s can't be beat, however. Under $500 for front and rear is enticing. But, the Fox is a better shock for not much more, IMO.
