I've been happy with the offroam unit in my 4R. Wasn't sure about the location, but the arm is infinitely adjustable and once it gets tightened no rattles.

Best Phone Mount?
I didn’t want anything blocked, but wanted good visibility and convenience. There was nothing on the market that met my expectations, so I made my own. It is absolutely perfect and even allows me to use FaceID to unlock without moving the phone from the mount.
Parts were relatively inexpensive (Amazon) and it was really easy to do. I’m using an iPhone that has MagSafe compatibility, but you could use a ProClip phone specific cradle or genetic magnet, whatever works best for you.
Here’s a photo of the finished product. I’ll link my build thread below where you can find details.

Best Phone Mount?
I went with a plain ol’ console saddle bag. Suits my needs well, but not exactly a mount as much as storage.

Care to link to this. This might actually be what I am looking for since I don't really use my phone when driving. Also, I like that shorter cable.
Thanks.

Here you go:
Center Console Storage Bags — 4Runner Lifestyle
It’s worth nothing they are applied with 3m Velcro tape. This doesn’t bother me at all as I can detail afterwards to remove the adhesive. If I decide I want to remove. It may be a show stopper for some. Also, some installation tips: make sure to install it in such a way that you can still move your seat as far forward as you’d like for other users. Also, keep the Velcro tape on the panel, remove the backing, and press the whole thing against the console to place it where you like. This way you’ll avoid any misaligned tape issues or goofy install problems.
I’m very happy with the outcome, as I’ve felt all phone mounts look terrible. I’m grateful to have CarPlay, and can keep the phone outta the way.

Thank you. I was either going to go with this or with the pro-clip mount so I was okay with dealing with the adhesive either way. This seems like it might be better as it won't interfere with anything and offers some additional storage.

You’re welcome! I ordered the Anker power line 1ft braided cable along with it(MFI certified). It’s just long enough to use in a pinch, but doesn’t necessarily promote use while driving. After deciding against a mount, having it close and clean looking we’re my goals and this works well in that sense. Hope it works for you also!

Just wanted to add that I tried those storage bags/pouches. They come with very strong-seeming adhesive velcro strips but they absolutely fall right off in hot/cold weather.
I even had the vendor send me a new set to be sure it wasn't just a "dud" that we received (great customer service!) and the new ones fell off, too.
YMMV - just wanted to mention it.

Thanks for sharing! Ive not had trouble yet, been on for months, but its on a garaged 4R in Utah. If I do have trouble, I intend to buy some outdoor velcro stripping to replace. Have you done the same, or considered it? I’m hoping that does the trick.

That's my plan, too, yup - just scour Amazon for some HD rated adhesive velcro. The pockets are very useful for road-trip items like AirPods, snack bars, compact flashlights, etc.

Hmmm... this could be an issue then given that I live in AZ. I do keep it in the garage but it still gets insanely hot in there during the summer months.
Thanks for the heads up.

For sure, you're welcome. I was super bummed, since it seemed like a good option. Tried another normal adhesive velcro brand (not heavy duty or anything) and the same thing happened.

If you're looking for a console mount and want to avoid covering a vent, the Pro-Clip mount is a solid choice. It offers a secure fit without obstructing vents.

Took me a while to find this one. If you use Magsafe cases it's incredibly strong-will not come off no matter where you drive.
