Exclamation p0305 code

Okay thanks if you are reading this.

2010 4Runner, 4.0 v6 232,000 miles

I thought I had a transmission issue. I kept getting what felt like slipping when shifting from 3 to 4 or 2 to 3. After a while I had a issue come up where it turned out i had some misfiring going on. Cylinders 1 3 and 5 with check engine light on and running very rough.

I had the spark plugs and coils changed and it ran fine again. Now i am getting cylinder 5 codes that come up every once in a while. If the code comes up and i am getting misfired I unplug the coil and fuel injectors reset the code and it comes back to life.

Today however I reset the code and it seems to be more persistent, I have tried multiple coils. Not sure what to do at this point. Looking for help! not sure what else to do at this point. I was told by one mechanic it could be the timing chain.

Thanks, I have seen this video. Unfortunately the problem is intermittent and strange. Earlier today it wouldn’t run well at all. Now it seems fine. I don’t know what the hell is going on

Check the wiring. I am leaning electrical because when you disconnect the wiring and hook it up it runs normal for a while. Wouldn't hurt to check the wiring and grounds.

What usually works for me, Stewmatic508, is:...a factory RESET of the Mainbody ECU Compu & PCM!" It'll RESET ALL the computers (about 26-27; depending on the Trim Level)! To do this, disconnect the NEG battery (minimum of 4 hrs or over night)!

When you re-connect the truck will start, run for two seconds, then shut-down (This is Normal)! Start it back up... now ALL "IN-ACTIVE" Codes will be deleted; if the truck runs erratically, or performs poorly, the problem is "ACTIVE!"

...so cannot be RESET that way at this time! So now you're looking for the real culprit...e.g., Fuel Injector, wiring to the ignition coils or fuel-pump, VVT-i...etc! But for now, just "KEEP IT SIMPLE"

~rig~ Best to you!

Is the MIL on, or is it flashing? Are there any other codes stored?

To properly diagnose, you're going to need to see freeze frame data and reproduce it while watching misfire counts and fuel trims. You really need someone that knows how to do diagnostics and doesn't just guess at it (timing chain, replacing banks of coils, etc.)

Do you still have the old coils? Toyota coils almost never go bad, and aftermarket coils are almost universally garbage and will fail in short order.
