Exclamation p0305 code

Okay thanks if you are reading this.

2010 4Runner, 4.0 v6 232,000 miles

I thought I had a transmission issue. I kept getting what felt like slipping when shifting from 3 to 4 or 2 to 3. After a while I had a issue come up where it turned out i had some misfiring going on. Cylinders 1 3 and 5 with check engine light on and running very rough.

I had the spark plugs and coils changed and it ran fine again. Now i am getting cylinder 5 codes that come up every once in a while. If the code comes up and i am getting misfired I unplug the coil and fuel injectors reset the code and it comes back to life.

Today however I reset the code and it seems to be more persistent, I have tried multiple coils. Not sure what to do at this point. Looking for help! not sure what else to do at this point. I was told by one mechanic it could be the timing chain.

sensors, timing or all of the above

Hey stewmatic508,
I just joined to hopefully find some answers and your post was the closest thing to my issue. I have a 2011 SR5 4.0L V6 with 214,000 miles. Noticed a little lag in power so went to change my plugs. Plug on my 4th cyl had oil in it. Changed my valve cover gasket got everything hooked back up. Started up and was running fine but my Check engine light (CEL) came on along with my Traction control light. So I pulled the codes and it was for my cam shaft position sensors a & b (bank 2) and my Mass air flow sensor. I ordered the OEM sensors and replaced them, cleared the codes but the CEL came back on with the traction control light. Took it to my local shop and they diagnosed for about 3 hours and the only thing they came back with as a possibility was the VVT solenoids. So i ordered the OEM solenoids and replaced them. Used my scan tool and cleared the codes. Started it up and CEL and traction light still come on. The shop is telling me the only other thing it could be is the timing chain. Im wondering if you ever found a solution to your issue and what it ended up being.

Thanks,
Mike
