Oil change interval

I paid to have my first local dealer oil change at 1,500 miles and saved first catch oil into plastic bottle. Wow, very black. Let it sit in garage for 6 months then poured it into a bigger container for a used oil drop off. The black grit sludge that settled out and stuck bottom of bottle was dramatic.
Later learned from same dealer's courtesy driver that the experienced shop mechanics assign truck oil and tire rotation jobs to newbie mechanics then place bets on how fast they complete the job!
Now I only service my SR5 where I can watch the mechanics work.

A poll on what interval owners use would be great.

I was planning on every 5,000 miles as a form of "cheap insurance". I do want this thing to last forever. I suppose I could do 7,500. I don't think I want to humor 10,000.

10000 here. Just don't see the need to do it more often with synthetic and typical use cycle I put it through.

I just got my Blackstone report back for my 5,000 mile normal change interval using an OEM filter and Kirkland Full Synthetic 0-20w and just normal city/highway driving on my 2017 with 60k miles on it. No consumption or oil added during the interval. They said it looked perfect and advised that I could go well beyond the 5,000 mark that the car tells you to do. I'm going to try 7,500 next time and see what they say. Can't beat the Kirkland for the money!

I’ve been running Kirkland synthetic at ~12,500 intervals for the last 200,000 miles. Last report showed still had plenty of life left.

At least during the warranty period, I'll be letting my dealer do the oil changes. After the warranty period... I'll probably still let them do the oil changes.

Would be nice to know if they're using quality oil. I wonder if I would get a truthful answer if I called and asked what oil they use?

I do the same. Dealer by me 1hr away is actually pretty good and they use Toyota synthetic so i know its good.

I allow the 5,000mi reminder go and usually do between 6k and 7k, with the rare 10k if necessary.

There aren't many options out there for 0-20 and it's only synthetic. If they aren't using Toyota my guess is it's Mobil 1. Unless there is some bulk oil from Warren or something I don't know about that dealers can get. Warren makes Kirkland, Amazon, and some other big brand oils. They're fine.

They have to use oil that meets the API standard required for your vehicle. Are there oils that are much better than the minimum API standard? Yes. Is the dealership using said oils? No, they are running a business that needs profits to stay afloat.

If you plan on never doing the oil changes yourself, then go ahead with dealer service.

If you do plan on doing oil changes and other work yourself, don't let the lowest paid tech who is paid by the job, not the hour, touch your truck.

What else could it be other than Toyota 0-20? Actually asking, not being sarcastic. Maybe you know something we don't or work at a dealership or something.
