Looking for opinions: Enkei 18s on Limited
My 4r is mostly street with some snow/ice/fire road. I am running orp 17s right now but want something a bit more unique and ideally lighter.
Landing on these. I know there are a million threads on fitment. This would be a factory suspension Limited.
Would save me 10lbs per corner vs the oe 20s and 7 vs the orp 17s.
A little worried about a)rubbing and b)265s looking goofy on 9” rims.
Opinions? Experience?

Recently went down this rabbit hole. I think if you’re looking for a lighter wheel, you’d save even more slimming down from a 9. In that offset, you’ll definitely be widening your stance. Im getting the sense you know this. Goofy? Naw. Will probably look kinda neat. Staying at a 265 has me questioning your decision to step up to an 18, as it runs contrary to weight savings, IMO. All the same, your reasons are your own. I think they look great. Definitely share some pics if you go this route! Ive got a lift, wheels, and tires going on Monday, heh. Pretty pumped!

My priorities:
- Good ride/handling/weight balance. 17s are great and soft but a little mushy. 20s are heavier -- especially with a wider tire than OE and make the ride brittle
- Fill out the wheel wells a bit. The 17s look a bit too tucked for me.
- Something that looks unique but still subtle.
- High quality wheel -- durable, light, etc.

It is my understanding that most of your priorities in terms of ride quality may have more to do with tire load rating and compounds than wheel size. Not sure what rated tire you ran on the 265, but you can firm them up with a c or higher -rated tire. Stepping up in size on the limiteds 20 almost certainly had you in a very firm e-rated tire, very big and heavy.
If youre looking to fill out the wheel well a bit more, I believe a 265/65/18 is actually a slightly smaller tire than the 265/70/17, and may not work well towards that end. Visually they’ll look the same, but youre not getting any extra fill-in.
Not trying to talk you out of anything. The enkeis look great. Just food for thought.

Thanks! Has anyone run 18x9 ET0 with 265s on a Limited -- and "does it rub"?

FWIW I just checked on a tire size calculator (on Miata.net ) and both the 265/70-17 and 265/65-18 have the same 31.6" dia (as do the 246/60-20s
My ORP 17s are running the OE Dunlops. Running a C or E rated tire would add a ton of weight and I don't need the load capacity.
The comment re: 18x9 ET0 w/265 rubbing is giving me pause...

Yeah - only mentioned the ratings as you’d left me the impression you were unhappy with the other wheels/tires ride, and attributed it to the wheel size.
As far as tire size:
Knowing the width+ratio already tells you everything about their relative sizing: 265 w/70% of that vs 265 w/65% of that being your sidewall height. The numbers tell the story. It’s not a huge step backwards. Just not a step towards the stated goal of filling the wheel well any more than it appears to be filled presently. I may even look smaller having less tire and more wheel.
Along these lines, from your stated goals that were easy to weigh, I’m getting that you want a lighter setup that fills out the wheel well a little better. I think your shared selection accomplishes one of those goals. You may be able to accomplish both by dropping to a smaller wheel, but again - the Enkeis look very sharp. the 9s would give me pause. But, If you have any rubbing, you could likely address it with some UCAs and push the caster up as needed. I cant imagine youd need trimming.

You know what? Forgive my slowness. I totally get it now: You want a nice in between the 17s and the 20s, while keeping a very similar tire profile (or maybe gain a little if it works out). The 18s with the smaller sidewall should indeed probably move you away from the softer more mushy, tall, soft, sidewall of the 17. It will also look great. I do still agree with your worry about the 9s. Youre gaining 2inches in stance. Also, it’s worth noting that the wider wheel in this offset may prevent you from selecting a bigger tire down the road, if you wanted to avoid something like an BMC. Anyway, godspeed and share some pics.

Reason: Forgot a sentence about wheel size.

Yeah, actually what I want doesn't exist.
- 17 or 18"
- 8" or maybe 8.5" wide max
- Offset around 10mm
- Either flow formed or forged -- light weight and strong
At the end of the day I think 9" wide and et0 is going to be too aggressive of a fitment for me.
Anyone know of a wheel that meets the specs above? Should I go down the TE37 investigation path? I have no idea how to source.
