Where I live we use salt on the roads for 5 months of the year so it’s now part of my routine but probably not necessary for folks living down south. I used Lucas red n tacky, it was what I had on hand at the time. No, I didn’t remove it. Cycling it back and forth with penetrating oil before I greased it seemed to do the trick.

Cheers!

I got my repaired 4R back, all is good now. I did get the old NSS switch back and did some investigating, opened the body to see where the binding or water intrusion was coming from.
If I can I will show pictures of a new switch and my old one. My findings are interesting. There was no moisture inside the electrical contacts at all and no binding while the switch is out of the tranny post. For sure, all of the binding was happening where the locking nut holds the switch to the tranny post. That portion on my old switch was broken off in the removal process. As I said, there was nothing wrong with the switch internally that would cause this malfunction. The binding was occuring at the connection point locking nut with a spring type washer. I would think keeping that post lubricated as a normal maintenance item could avoid future issues. The electrical connector did not have any corrosion and appears to be clean and dry so my plan is to slather the external locking nut and washer with white lithium grease when I do the oil and filter changes.
I am unable to show my old switch because the attachment fails, probably too large and I have no idea how to resize it to fit here.
