Trip Report: Epic 9-day 1,200-mile Tour of Colorado

We have finally compiled a detailed account of our solo Tour of Colorado.

It was 9 days and 1,200 miles across 1 State, 3 National Parks, 9 National Forests, 12 Wilderness Areas, and 16 Mountain Passes while camping out of our 2011 4Runner Limited.

It's too much info to recompile it all here in 20 pic blocks of info so you'll find links below. The 2-part post contains destinations, descriptions, general routes, and hundreds of photos of mind-blowing scenery.

Tour of Colorado 2022 – Part 1 – A Guy A Girl and A Trail

What a great trip. Thanks for sharing the photos. Having been to Colorado numerous times, I recognized many of those places. Great place for off roading.

Great pics. I did many of the same areas 10+ years ago with my 3rd gen 4Runner. Had a relative who lived in Salida. Pretty country. Any info on your build?

The detailed build list is here: The 4Runner – A Guy A Girl and A Trail

There's a link to my custom DIY dual battery power distribution build in there as well.

I don’t map out specific routes ahead of times and I don’t record them as I go. In the linked post the end of each day has an overview of that days route. That’s what I tend to document.

Yep....I get it...and I understand why most people dont post up routes. Living in TN, and making a trip out west to do "make it up as you go" with a limited time is tougher without have access / familiarity to those areas on a more regular basis. But I suppose some good in depth planning with apps like Onx and Gaia would help. I might go back this year if work load allows. I was actually at Great sand dunes a couple years ago. Look forward to reading your journal more in-depth.
