ATTN: snorkel Gang

Hi snorkel dorks,

I came across AOB's precleaner filter for Ram heads. It's a 3d printed grill that allows you to use replaceable foam/filter as a precleaner, almost like a cartridge system. You don't have to buy filters from them, you can cut up any fish tank or Hippa filter foam from home depot if you wanted, but the kit from AOB came with a ton of filters, or you can probably wash and reuse em if you are a cheapskate. There is also drain holes on the bottom to allow the prefilter to dry and not allow water into the snorkel when the vehicle is parked.

I was running cyclonic precleaner, and while i love that thing, it did have a minor drawback, a slight loss of power, which meant a slight loss of MPG cuz you had to push the accelerator more, and Im already in single MPG territory.

SO back to the AOB precleaner kit, it comes with a red and green filter, and one is suppose to allow more airflow and the other is suppose to filter better but allow for less airflow. It is a bit gimmicky. You don't have to run any filter if you don't want to, and it copies the ARB ram head grill perfectly.

I wanted this filter mainly to stop dead bugs, leaves, and pebbles from getting into my airbox, secondary to dust filtration. I also didn't want to run a filter sock, mainly cuz they fall off all the time.

Anyways, on to the pics:

cheers.

yup, and as a update:

I was messing with the AOB pre-filters, i put it to my face, and breathed through it, and its porous enough to where it didn't limit my breathing...all in the name of SCIENCE!!!!!!

I got mine through AOB's USA website, which is cool because previously you had to buy these direct from australia, where shipping cost more than the filter itself.

So far I like it.

What cyclone prefilter were you using? I have the snorkel upgrade.com sy-klone. I’m supercharged as well. I do feel it limits a little and plan on removing once we are done with snow

update:

this prefilter worked good.

Went up to yosemite, back to san diego, then back to alabama hills, then went offroading from bishop california to Inyo National forest via diablo road.

Mix of rock crawling and desert running w/ sand, silt, mud, bugs, lots of bugs, and my air filter stayed pristine, prefilter looks like crap, but thats the whole point.

no loss of power going up the grapevine (HWY 5) or up the HWY 15 or HWY 395, which has pretty gnarly grades at 75 mph.
