Odyssey battery confusion...help

Ok...I have seen lots of threads and done the reading, but I cant figure out why everyone is recommending the group34 battery with a bottom spacer. If you go to odyssey site, and plug in a 2020 4r....it suggests the ODX-agm24f.....
the forum consensus is the 34r-pc1500. From my research they are both "extreme" agm units. The 24 is slightly taller and does not need a spacer...and the specs are virtually the same with a notable longer reserve cap of the 24.

WHAT am i missing???? Is it the weight?
Battery dead on my LC100, gonna take the 4r batt and place in LC100....then use the new odyssey in the 4r.

Not an expert on this

The R in 34r-PC1500 is for the reversed terminals which is the stock terminal location in the 4runner.

The 24F should be flat terminal layout but I have no idea what that is. I have a 34r and it works fine for me although I'm using the rago battery box with no riser.

I also know of some people who do a group 31. Be careful how big of a battery you install, the heavier ones are known to crack the front apron support above the wheel.

I'm pretty sure you can just use what ever fits or works for you

Hi lewdog998,

The group 34 has a bit more CCA than the Group 24 unit, but they'll both fit in the battery tray just fine! The 24F doesn't need the spacer underneath it to mount up!

The problem with the odx-agm24f is that the terminals are in the wrong place. You need to modify the cables to reach properly. Pain in the ass really. If you can find an equivalent group 24 with reversed terminals then that would be the better choice. I don’t think odyssey makes such a thing.

I went with the X2Power Premium AGM 24F. No riser, or cable location issues, plus it has a 4 year warranty.

The difference between 24 and 24F is that the terminals are reversed. 24F fits the T4R without modification, and yes, Odyssey makes one.

When i put my 1st Odyssey battery in my 2014 4runner sometime around 2018
the 32R battery was the one recommended by Odyssey and I bought it directly from them. When i decided to replace it last year they recommended the 24 battery. Possibly they did not make a reversed terminal 24 battery in 2018? Either one works just fine.

Not helpful to your question but i highly recommend the X2 from Just a moment...

I had their previous brand (north star) for almost 8 years and only replaced it because the voltage was running low. Not totally dead.

Interesting. The images on a lot of sites must be out of whack then. However going to Odyssey's site shows both an ODX-24F and an ODP-24F as fitting the 4runner. No idea whatsoever the difference between OD Performance and OD Xtreme.

Anyway, if I'm wrong that's a good thing. I've done the terminals in the wrong place thing before and it's a fkn pain in the ass to say the least.

The biggest issue is the terminals are backwards, I actually tried putting a 24 in and it would not work without extending the battery wires and terminals
