We’ve had an “order” with deposit since December ‘22 for a 2023 Off-road in Lunarock. Dealer has yet to be allocated. They keep pushing out Limiteds and Off-road Premiums, even SR5 Premiums, but not the basic models. At this rate, we may be staring at a 2024, but I will not pay the price increase as my “order” was already priced back in December.

Don't forget, you're already paying for the $750 MSRP increase that happened in January.

I originally wanted an Offroad with no options--especially not the $1600 "premium audio". I have yet to see a 2023 4Runner window sticker that isn't Premium trim or doesn't have the Premium Audio package. It seems straight up required for this year.

Due to that, I upped my order to an Offroad Premium, since that's a better deal than an Offroad with the $1600 Premium Audio Package. Got it exactly 6 months after ordering. Started 55th in line at my dealer, since they were an MSRP, no mandatory add-ons/fees dealer.

No we set the contracted price in December ‘22 and they took our $1k deposit on that. We have a written/printed sale agreement.

The Off-road Premium is typically $5K to $6K more than the Offroad and they come with Softex fake leather which we don’t want. No interest in the $1,600 premium audio package either. Most ORPs are showing up with moon-roofs and KDSS suspension, neither of which we want.

Gooood luck getting a base base 2023 TRD Offroad. Like I said, that's what I originally wanted, and I haven't seen a SINGLE 2023 TRD Offroad window sticker that didn't have the $1600 audio package... and I looked at dozens of those window stickers over the months hoping to find one.

TRD Offroad Premiums with no $$ options do exist, my dealer just got me one. ZERO options. The TRD Offroad Premium is $2600 more than base TRD Offroad, $1,000 more than TRD Offroad w/ Premium Audio, and $750 more when you factor in that Offroad Premium gets a larger Keep It Wild Savings discount than the TRD Offroad does. It became a no brainer for me. I also absolutely love these seats, so comfortable, and easy to clean after camping.

Finally, just to make life worse, it appears that in the last month or so, 4Runner MSRPs went up ANOTHER $600 (they had gone up $750 in January as well). Two freaking mid-model-year MSRP increases. Sucks.

Good luck getting your dealer to eat all these MSRP increases beyond their control. I virtually guarantee they won't. "Purchase contract" or not, there is almost always a way for a dealer to get out of a sale if they want to. And there's usually provisions for when manufacturers increase prices. If I was a dealer that was somehow locked into an exact price with you, and was looking at having to eat over a thousand dollars in Toyota MSRP increases, somehow, I would simply refund your deposit and wish you good luck. I'm not trying to be rude, it just appears that you have purchase expectations that will probably not be met. You could contact your dealer about the January and May MSRP increases and ask if they'll be honoring their original price and eating those increases themselves. I'd be surprised if they said yes.

i really wanted a bronco when they came (back) out, but i couldn't/ can't bring myself to buy a turbo charged 4 cylinder. bought a 2021 Rav4 over a honda CRV solely because of turbo. my friend who works for ford corporate, said they are going turbos to meet epa requirements for emissions and mpg, sounds logical but not this guy. my MGM ORP arrived in port may 5th, i'm like a little kid waiting for santa.

So I checked and Lithia Toyota in Missoula had this ORP in Lunarock in transit and it now has my wife’s name on it. Should be here in 4 to 6 weeks. It has Softex seats, but we can live with that.

Nice! Lunar was my #2 color choice, but my dealer did end up getting me my Nautical Blue in a timely manner. I think Lunar looks great on these things. Enjoy it once it gets here!

Maybe marvel at all the little things they've packed into it these days. Windshield wiper deicers, heated steering wheel, auto dimming mirror, blind spot monitor, cross-traffic alert (which saved me from a jackass 30mph parking lot driver the first week...), toyota safety sense.... they've just about figured out how to include everything except LED interior lights by now.

If it was going to be my car, it would be blue. I drive old cars by choice.

My son just gave me the title on his 1994 K2500 Suburban 4WD with 6.5 diesel….because I had done all the work on it. After I fix it up, it will move to our ranch in Montana.

Turbos also make more power out of a smaller displacement, which is a good thing.

Turbos are not new, they're nothing to be afraid of. I have a 16 year old Volvo with 232k and counting on the original turbo, no issues ever. It's tuned for low end torque, it's a great driving experience.

I actually look forward to a torquey turbo 4 in the 4R, it will be a much needed improvement over the 4.0.

GMs 2.7L turbo 4 makes up to 430ft lbs of tq, that's fantastic!

Just an update. I've been watching incoming units to my Dealership and found the exact combo of model (SR5 4x2), color (white/graphite) and factory options (none) that I wanted. This was last Saturday. I paid the deposit over the phone and they were able to remove/add the port installed options I wanted on Monday. Due in port tomorrow. While I *might* have been able to save some money on a 2024 (if purchase premiums fall faster than factory prices rise), I just wanted to seal the deal. I'm really looking forward to the safety sensors. I'm getting older every day...... This could easily be my last vehicle purchase ever.

It sounds like you're talking an absolute base model. A regular SR5, NOT an SR5 Premium.

Does it have the $1600 "Premium Audio" package? I have not seen one single 2023 SR5/TRD Offroad window sticker that didn't have that checked. Do you have a window sticker or know the MSRP by chance?

I trust that Toyota isn't killing their golden geese of 4Runner and Tacoma by going turbo 2.4L four-cylinder, and I'll see if that assumption gets proven otherwise. They say they tested it thoroughly and know the reliability their customers expect. The trust is there for now.

If it turns out to be good on reliability, one day years into the future, I'll move on to the future 6th gen 4Runner with that 2.4L. The 2.4L in the new Tacoma makes like 17% more torque than the big 4.0L, and it makes it thousands of RPMs earlier.

For how big "4.0 liters" sounds, this thing can't go up a steep highway grade at 65mph without asking for north of 3500rpm.... when done properly, there is a replacement for displacement.

Exactly, all that really matters is power to weight ratio ultimately and turbo 4 cylinders often win here due to their inherently lighter weight. 270hp and 278 lb/ft torque is not a whole hell of a lot for a vehicle pushing 5000 pounds even if the engine is "big" by modern standards.

The 1GR-FE in the 4Runner effectively dates to 2002. This engine is ancient history and doesn't benefit from tons of engineering work that has been done to increase efficiency and output the last 15 years.

It is the absolute base model. That's all I want. I've had several and haven't missed any other available options.

It does not have the premium audio. The pattern in my area is that the few 4x2 Base SR5s do not include it but all other models do. I have zero interest in paying that $1600. I believe that all it adds is Navigation. I've had navigation on two 4Runners and rarely used it. The new base radio has "AppleCarplay" which I'm hoping will let me display the Google maps on my phone on the display. I'll find out soon enough.

The MSRP is $41,602. There are no factory options. The PIOs are:
EMERGENCY ASSISTANCE KIT (TMS) $75
CARGO COVER (TMS) $179
ALL-WEATHER FLOOR LINERS/CARGO TRAY (TMS) $309
CARGO NET (TMS) $49

I agree. If it were GM, I wouldn't think of buying anything with a Turbo. Toyota, I probably would, but with a bit of nervousness. We're retired, and really don't drive that much. Most is just around town and some highway driving, but nothing that begs for any more power (or fuel efficiency) than the current 4.0L. I believe that heat is a Turbo's biggest enemy, and we live in the desert. As I mentioned above, the 2023 4Runner I'm buying may very well be our last vehicle purchase of any kind. It has the safety sensors I need and we'll likely put less than 5000 miles a year on it. Probably more like 3000 miles. At the end of the day, I just really like the 5th gens and locking a new one in versus waiting for what's behind door number two works great for me. I appreciate all the inputs.
