Shock Struts from a Newer 4Runner on a 2010 4Runner?

Quick questions, will shocks or struts from a recent model year 4Runner work on an older 4Runner, say a 2010, 2011, 2012 or 2013? I have some Monroe Quick Struts on my 2010 that feel worn out, very soft and bouncy over bumps. Even speed bumps feel like a rodeo ride. I am considering putting a set of shocks from a recent year on the truck. I can get a set of take-offs for about half the cost of a set of Bilstein 5100s. Thoughts. Thanks

You can get a set of take offs for next to nothing usually. Most people can barely give them away. They just end up either junking them or keeping them in case they want to revert back to stock.

So I have decided that these Monroe shocks have got to go. They are horrible. I don't know if they were this bad when first installed or if the seals were blown by the thieves running through the desert. The dampening is non-existent, it is like driving a pogo stick........

Options

1. Bilsteins 5100 - roughly $450, great shocks, I may need new rear springs too.
2. Replace with OEM take-offs - $150 to $200 including rear springs.
3. TRD Pro Red Bilstein Shocks/Struts - A buddy has a set that he took off at 30,000 miles. Includes the rear reservoir.

Thoughts? I don't know if I will be keeping the 4Runner or giving it to my daughter. I have several friends that want it if I don't keep it. What is the ride like on the TRD Pro shocks? Are they much stiffer than the stock OEM sets? Thanks, bouncing along in San Diego...............

I ended up getting a set of OEM take offs with less than 5,000 miles on them.(tires were brand new the week it was stolen, BFG All Terrains. The thieves put about 3,500 miles on them. The feel very much out of balance, Discount Tire here I come.
