2015 TRD Pro Frame rust photo: Your thoughts?
Considering this 4Runner for sale, how bad does this rust look to you? Has 140K miles, asking $25K. Thinking I could do a light sand, paint and coat with fluid film every year. Or just pass and find something better.

Agree, very mild. I would address it, but it's nothing to be concerned about.

Ok great, appreciate it guys. I have a 99' 4Runner currently, owned it for 17 years. Have been addressing rust issues currently, don't want to go down this road again.

Assuming they don't salt the roads in KY, I would look elsewhere. While none of that rust is anywhere near structural, it has started and you'll never get rid of it all. All of those fasteners will be a big PITA if you DIY, better have an oxy/acetylene or oxy/propane torch. That looks like it has spent about 1 winter in the rust belt.

Looks like my underside, on a’15 w about the same mileage, from PA.
I’m planning on cleaning up my rusty areas n applying Por 15.

Our winters are mild but they do salt if we get an inch of snow. I didn't pay enough attention to this with my 99' 4Runner and had to do a frame patch on it recently.

Not bad at all. Good price too. I would fluid film it and call it a day until the winter rolled around, then I would fluid film it again.

A lot more rust than my 2015 that lived its life in Northern Utah. I used it to plow snow among other things, so it's seen lots of winter weather. Utah salts the roads like it's free because the salt literally is free and available in abundance. It's interesting to see how much faster the rust advances in places with more humid environments.
I don't think it's a structural problem. But as was mentioned above - the hardware is going to be a challenge to remove and I'd expect to be drilling out and re-threading or replacing the hardware on anything underneath you remove like skid plates. If they all look like that where you are, probably not an issue. If not, I'd look for a cleaner one.

It's a pain to do rust prevention. (speaking for my self) Just have a pro do it. They' ll remove it and paint it with marine paint. The fluid film is sticky.

Ha that is 'mint' compared to the frames here in the Northeast! That is what it looks like after one good winter of snow/salt!

That's no big deal. Forget sanding unless it's a tight spot. Bust out the angle grinder with a wire wheel and you'll have the rust off the frame in half an hour. Pb blast the sh1t out of all the screws a couple times a day for a few days. They'll come out. Looks like fun to me being a welder/fabricator.
