AFE Intake Dyno & Install Inside
Hello All,
Long time lurker, first time poster. I had a 4th gen for years and we finally got a 22 ORP new a year or so ago. I don’t have to say the general consensus is these are dogs. The subject vehicle still has stock tires with 11,000 miles and stock mechanically other than a catch can which works great by the way.
I’ve done all things from building engines, suspension work, bolt ons, you name it. I have a few current beasts in the stable but I still can’t help myself making this better. I wanted to test out AFE’s claims just like the TRD Intake was tested.
On to the the data. It was 85 degrees ambient and I’m running on 87 octane for now, elevation was 2,583 ft. We dyno’d in 3rd gear as it was easier to stop it from kicking down. Yes I know this inflates the numbers a few percent but the gains are still here. In the future I will do another before and after with the YotaWerx tune where we gear lock the stock and modified maps for a 2k rpm starting sweep.
The intake was installed in roughly 20 mins on the dyno in between runs so nothing changed condition wise. Overall the vehicle performs noticeably better as it does not downshift in a few spots on my normal route like it used to. I will update mpg after a tank of normal driving and will hand calculate it. The intake with plug in is also very quiet, stock quiet until 50% or more throttle. Overall I would absolutely buy it again based on the 50 miles I have put on it so far. The torque gain right at 3900 is fantastic and below but not caught on the dyno. I have no doubt there are similar gains down low that I seem to feel.
I don’t like when anyone dismisses modifications as snake oil without proof. I was ready to see zero gains and sell. But after the dyno and improved drivability I will definitely move forward with the tune.

nice work! and at first i thought that was pretty low drivetrain loss, but then I remembered you are on a hub dyno so you don't have to spin a heavy wheel there. it would be interesting to see how much power you lose with just the wheel/tire weight (impossible to know because no dyno is a hub dyno and a roller). any drone when cruising on the freeway or up hill?

Also being in third power will be a smidge higher the a 1:1 ratio but we do what we can.
So far there is absolutely none. If you are at 75 and it kicks down with a fair amount of pedal you get a fair amount of induction noise, but it is not a drone.
I wanted as quiet as I could after researching it sounds like S&B, TRD, and AFE is the order for loudest to quietest and I would agree. I am very picky, my wife hasn't noticed there is a change yet.

Love my AFE intake, have had it for years, I highly recommend getting a tune, it really opened up the other mods that I have on my truck. Nice to see real data as so many haters always say that there are no gains from an intake

I am looking forward to the tune for sure!
I am the opposite of a hater, hence my post. But did that spacer do anything for you? It seems that is carb thing for more volume/atomization. I'd love to dyno test that, but dyno rental gets expensive. Ha

I did it with the intake so hard to say, I definitely think it compliments the intake well though.

I have the aFe intake on mine with the Magnuson and the extra noise alone was worth getting it

So peak torque of like 270 lbs-ft at like 4400 rpm to the wheels? Is it just me or does that seem high? Maybe because you ran 3rd gear?

Noted, thanks!
An FYI for all, half a tank in the computer shows 20.3 all city. For the life of the vehicle it has been right within a tenth, so assuming this I am up roughly 1.3MPG so far which I am happy about.
