Frame hole plug kit

My 2022 T4R off Road Premium has at least 60+ holes in the frame from the factory! Why so many? Does Toyota feel it isn't necessary to plug them? Looked back thru some old posts and see a plug kit Part number 04002-07104 for Tacoma.
How many plugs do you get for $50.00? Anybody know?
I just had the frame undercoated and rust proofed inside with ValuGard so want to protect my investment.

Yes, you get 28 total plugs of 9 different shapes/sizes. I haven't installed mine yet.

I've never heard of this "plug kit" for all the holes in the frame. Is that a common modification of members here?

Moisture will make its way in somewhere anyway. Wouldn't you want it to evaporate more easily?

It is not a modification, rather the 4Runner comes from the factory with all those plugs.

The problem with them is they get brittle over time due to heat and moisture, then they just crumble. Sometimes you need to take some plugs out, for example when installing skids, then you have nothing to put back in the holes to keep water out if the original plugs are bad.

Sounds like an amazing way to expedite rusting your frame out from the inside.

My 4Runner didn't come from the factory with any plugs. I was there when they unloaded it from the car carrier!

No, I doubt they come new with these plugs, and it is a concern whether they will do more harm than good or do relatively nothing. You will not be able to completely seal the frame with these plugs, so I'm going to have to think about it some before I install them.

They’re not water tight plugs. I wouldn’t plug all of them. Leave a few open for draining.

^yup yup^

A lot of the “frame holes” don’t have a matching hole or plug on the opposite side…so it’s kinda counterproductive

Think of them as a shock boot/cover
I get that they “protect” the shock but they trap everything inside leading to greater issues in my opinion
Same thing comes to mind when talking bout airflow to the frame…STUFF is getting in there no matter what

I’m hoping to finally do a lil frame maintenance this summer while it’s nice out so when wet, cold, miserable winter comes I can just do a quick, decent touch up
Your investment is good to go…just clean it up when you need to

Let thy frame breathe!

My '18 4Runner, which I bought new, definitely came with many plugs on the frame. Broke a few when installing my RCI skids, so I know. Your post says you have an '03 Limited so perhaps things have changed from earlier generations.
