2011-Startup Noise

Can someone tell me what the start up noise-coming from near the dash- is on my Limited? Sounds like an electronic brake being released-like an actuator. Is it tied to the push button start?

Just before the engine starts. Imgur: The magic of the Internet

does it change based on what your HVAC controls are set to? my initial thoughts are brake booster, power steering pump or HVAC. power steering and brake booster are right behind the firewall on driver's side

I have a 2012 limited. I can go check if mine makes that sound too. I feel like it does but never really thought much of it

Same sound regardless of hvac. Maybe some automatic brake applying actuation for push start? Not sure.

Turn on your A/C on and let it run for a few seconds as you cycle through each of the hvac zones (Defrost, feet, head etc.) If you hear that sound or similar repeating it may be a bad blend door.

I have heard similar sounds with a friend's vehicle that had a damaged gear on the blend door. The blend door motor, sensors and Hvac system were not happy and the zones did not cycle through correctly on the passenger side of the vehicle.

I could be totally wrong. Just a hunch.

Turn on ignition to first position (but do not turn 2nd time to start engine) and press on the brake pedal. Do you hear a variation in the noise?
