Review: Lasfit Switchback Rock Lights

I am writing a review of a set of Lasfit Switchbback Rock Lights Lasfit Off-Road Switchback LED Rock Lights Kit White & Amber

Disclosure: These were provided to me in exchange for an honest review of the product as well as installation. I will not sugar coat anything and will be completely honest on my thoughts on the product as well as install.

First I will say that the packaging is on-point as it always is with Lasfit. Very well labeled, everything perfectly and carefully packed.

Each box contains 4 rock lights and a hardware(screws, nuts, washer) kit, zip ties and wiring harness. I had an 8-light kit so this is in 2 boxes. The Hardware looks to be great quality but it really is difficult to use in this install which I will cover later. The wiring harness is very well put together, high quality and makes it pretty much plug and play for anyone. The lights themselves are very high quality and seem very durable. The wiring also looks really great and is a product I would trust. It is not just some cheap lights off amazon.

Please also not that there are front and rear specific lights as the harnesses are different lengths. I made this mistake during the install.

Install:

Here is the only problem I found with this product. The mounting system seems lacking unless you have a flat sheetmetal piece you can drill through to put screws in. Other than that you have to jerry-rig some zip ties through the screw holes. There really is not an easy way to do this the way the mounting hardware and rubber pad is currently configured.

I was able to use zipties securely to fasten them in convenient places. You may need to get creative, as the mounting spots will depend on skids etc. I have full skids so I had no other choices here. In front I mounted to both sides of the frame radiator support. on the sides I mounted to the front skid braces and E-brake lines. In the rear I mounted them on the 2 side supports for the spare tire brace. You will need to get creative with running the wiring as well, depending how nice you want to route it. I ran all of the wires to the driver side and bundled them together to connect the harness. I also have a Swithpros, so I opted to use that to power it which requires cutting the harness right before it splits off to the switch and battery power. I did test the complete harness and it would make for a plug and play install by just connecting to Battery +/- if you don't have OCD about your switches/buttons. The connectord are keyed so you can't short them, and have O-rings for a nice water tight seal.

The install was not difficult, but as mentioned a few times you will have to assess your situation, find good mounting spots and get creative with zip ties and running your wires.

I ran the final harness wire up the Driver side frame rail to my switchpros to connect the White and Amber light wires. If you do this and cut the harness, there will be a single ground and 2 power wires. One for white and one for amber. You can power both up simultaneously as well which I will show.

Lighting:

Here you can see at night how bright the lights are. I am extremely impressed by how nice both colors look as well as how bright they are. The beam pattern seems wide enough for my use as well, though wider could be better.

First just the white light is on which is the brightest. Next just amber which may be nice in dusty conditions. Finally I combined both and it gives a warmer white color. having both on does not make it any brighter, but does make it what I would consider a nicer color temperature for normal use.

Overall thoughts:

I think the product is great and comes in at a competitive price. It is a fraction of the cost of Baja or Rigid but in this case performs as well as most competition. The lights seem very sturdy and well built and I will follow up after it goes through a winter and some offroading/camping this year. The only thing that need improvement is the mounting system. Zip ties is fine, but the mounts pad should be zip tie compatible, which they currently are not.

I would recommend this product and think it will work great for most people. My initial impressions are highly positive and I would buy them again at their current price as the competition costs 3x as much or more.

How do you keep them clean? Seems to me that first mud puddle they would be covered in mud, thus be useless.

Just put them on so can't speak to that yet. I agree that if its in thick mud they are useless. But on normal trails or rocky areas I think they will be fine.

The quality looks to be good. Usable light will depend on light placement. For me the sides are perfect, but front and rear under lighting are limited due to limited exposed mounting areas.
