Rock sliders that "could" work as a step too

It's time to add sliders to my lifted 5th Gen 4runner (w/KDSS). I do the occasional off-road trip and I've had a couple of close calls with rocks on the side.

Thing is that I really want this to work as a step too, especially when I take guests in the truck (I get lots of complains that it's too high ). Most sliders are roughly at the height of the frame which is just slightly below the door floor. I checked at my shop, and they suggested this model from pakrax which drops just a bit below the frame:

TOYOTA 5th Gen 4Runner Rock Sliders (2010-2023) – PAKRAX

So I need some advice for sliders that could work for me. My wishlist:
1. some kind of platform, so the 100% tubes as out
2. some drop from the frame, without compromising clearance.

Thanks for the suggestions.

Mine are from "Avid offroad".
Flat (not angled), kickoff, plate.
Works well as a step, though level with frame.
My 4runner is lifted 2¾".
Kickoff is a handy drink shelf when opening the door and both hands are full

My Cali Raised sliders are awesome. Probably my best mod. They work as a step for my short 5'1'' wife and 2 kids. Mine are the angled Trail sliders with kick out and powder coat option. I've had them almost 3 years with zero issues. No rust, no bend when using the Hi Lift jack, and they look OEM.

I have a 5% discount code on my instagram; link in my sig

RCI 5° sliders. Practically flat. I ended up putting 1” grip tape across the top of all the tubing. Works well as a step. They do have an option for an actual step plate but I just wasn’t a fan.

Victory 4x4 Strike sliders, work with KDSS and have a ton of mount points.

I just installed Westcott sliders on my KDSS equipped ORP. I went with the zero degree version and added the top plates. The rear has a “kick out” which gives a bigger platform for rear passengers.

I don’t think they give much of a benefit as a step since they only sit a bit lower than the actual floor of the vehicle. We transport my wife’s 81 year old mother in the 4Runner and she still needs a step after installing the sliders.

Check out Metaltech. They have two versions that will fit KDSS and they're generally in stock

So we have learned from this thread everyone's sliders "could" be used as a step.

It's the height that's mostly the issue and they will all tend to be pretty close to the same I think unless you find some made for the pre-2014 SR5s and/or limited trim that have lower side skirt plastics. The Victory 4x4 steps are the most running board like option I know of. I'm sure they'd be as good as any.

Demello Offroad Rock Sliders are beasts if you actually use them offroading and depend on them to protect your ride from serious use. This set is made for KDDS.

I just pulled mine off after 7 years and sanded them down, primed and painted. after re-installing them added grip tape.

I am going for a slightly different look to keep it interesting to me.

all legit sliders are going to be mounted pretty high that vertically challenged people will still complain.

Good note is most people will step in and out of the cab using the sliders, versus the plastic door sill area.

I've seen various manufactures come and go in the past that offered "add" on steps to their own rock sliders, but they always looked like a bad joke and I don't think they ever sold any in large numbers or continue to offer them presently.

You can always buy sliders and take it to a welder and have them weld on steps to the sliders or weld on tabs for bolt on steps. I can't imagine this being expensive at all. It might look goofy though.

Blitz also from Victory is another suggestion. The boatside design works great for using as a step and helps my kids (and wife) out immensely.
