Group 24F battery vs. group 35

I need to replace my original battery, an 80D26L-MF, which measures 10 1/4" wide. All the auto parts sites say that a group 24F will fit, but they measure 10 3/4" wide. When looking at the battery tray, it doesn't appear to have an additional 1/2" width to spare without sitting up on top of the tray (see photo).

My local garage said their parts locator says to use group 35, which is only 9.1" wide, but the group 35 batteries have much lower CCAs.

I'd prefer a group 24F, if it will fit. Has anyone successfully installed a group 24F battery? Did you need to make any modifications, put a spacer under the battery to raise it above the tray edges, etc.?

Bunch of folks have run the 24f, it over hangs a tiny bit but have had no issues. I have one in my 3rd Gen. There after market battery boxes you can purchase which are a little expensive or modify a marine battery tray holder like this one,"https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001O0D6R4/ref=sw_img_1?smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER&psc=1"and make it work.

I just swapped in a Duralast EFB 24F battery. I didn't even know that 24F wasn't the stock battery size. It dropped right into the plastic tray.

I've got a X2Power AGM 24F in mine. I swapped out because I needed more CCA for the winch. This one has 840CCA and dropped in perfectly with no issues.

X2 Power 24F AGM

The Interstate 24F from Costco fits fine. 700 CCA, good warranty, and it's cheap. I thought this was the OEM size?

The extra width that you're seeing in the battery specs probably includes the hand hold tabs at the top of the battery, not the width at the bottom where it sits in the tray.

That's a good thought! It doesn't make sense for the vendors to say it fits our 4Runners if it is too large for the tray...

Odessey fits mine no issues
ODX-AGM24F
(NSB-AGM24F)
ODX-AGM24F - ODYSSEY Battery

the X2 Cajunmike is using looks exactly like the Odessey...same specs as mine...and physically looks exactly same...likely rebranded and slightly less expensive.

As they said 24F is the OE size I believe. I just put a Napa Legend in mine a few months ago with no issues
