Exclamation Bilstein B8 5100 2010 Limited

Hello 2010 4runner 256,000 miles

I bought bilstien 5100 to replace the X-REAS suspension in my car. However I was speaking to someone at Bilstein today and they told me that because I have a limited that the Chasis are different and will not take the 5100.

I have seen a ton of people talk about replacing the X-REAS with the 5100 does anyone know if this is possible on the limited. I am scheduled to drop my car off on Monday and need to cancel before hand if its not.

TIA

Stephen

many people have done the conversion with no issues.

the issue with the XREAS is the cross linked hydraulic system. you need to remove the old shocks and the hard lines. with the bilstein shocks you obviously will not have the cross linked suspension benefits of XREAS

How To Quickly Remove The X-Reas System On A 5th Gen 4Runner - YouTube

Here's a vid explaining the additional xreas stuff that needs to be removed. Depending on the shop they may remove it all or just clip the lines at the shocks. I can't speak to the 2010's but I just did the swap on my '15 Limited a couple weeks back. Front springs swap over to the new 5100's and everything mounts up the same as the old ones

Bought my 2011 Limited used, with 5100's all around. No issues.

Yea really I am just looking to save my ride at this point. I just thought that it was strange Bilstein said that the chasis where different. It sounded strange that they would have different chasis

The ride is fine for me. It's not as smooth as the Xreas will be in good working order though-but the 5100's are not made for smooth highway driving. If you want that look into another shock. The 5100 suit me fine-decent on road ride, good light off road ride.

I got springs included in the package I ordered. Should I not use those?

I had less than 70k on my stock springs so they were still pretty fresh. At 250k+ I would have done new springs too. Bonus if they come assembled so you don't have screw with a spring compressor or go to a shop to have them swapped. Agree with Rocko on the ride. Your xreas system was probably pretty soft at that mileage, the 5100's will be noticeably firmer but I don't think they're 'harsh' by any means.

some people do , some people dont. springs can last the life of the vehicle. if you want to lift the truck then yeah get springs. you can reuse the OEM ones. the nice thing about the front springs is the drivers side is longer (I think it's the driver side) to compensate for the weight of the gas tank and driver. if you get two springs the same length you might need to adjust the 5100s so the truck sits level (as in side to side)

Im pretty sure what I said is right and applies to the 4runner about the different spring heights...

My 2010 Limited has the original X-Reas and at 258,000 miles, I still like the ride. Looking forward to looking at the Lexus GX550 OT+.
