Rear Speakers not working

Hello,

My rear speakers are not working and even my liftgate speakers.

I tried turning on and off the party mode and messing with the settings on the head unit but no sound.

Could it be a relay or amp?
Could it be the party mode switch itself?
head unit?

Or could it be the rear door speakers got unplugged, how does this work? I know i got the rear door panels worked on recently however, even if the rear door speakers got unplugged shouldnt the liftgate speakers still work? I'm pretty sure I didn't unplug the harnesses.

Please help, i know taking the rear door panels off just to check are a pain to put back.

so I pulled the rear panels, nothing is disconnected.

Party mode still works but only for the front.

this is the only weird thing i saw behind the party mode switch, a disconnected harness and I pulled out all the center panels and could not find where to plug it in. its the harness on the left. any ideas.

My best thoughts is that the rear speakers should work with party mode off so it tells me a few things. Either I am not getting power to the rear because the relay is not kicking on or the switch is not working. I am only doubting it is the rear amp because shouldn't the rear door speakers at least work? This thing just happened overnight and showed no signs of issues leading up to this point.

Did anyone change a stereo setting and move the fader to the front?

That harness is probably to a switch you don't have. Something pre-wired from Toyota.

I know that if you disconnect a speaker in the hatch, you will lose hatch and door speakers. It may be the same for the rear doors. If you had recent work on them, that is where I would start. Make sure the speaker plug didn't fall out (if you have stock speakers) or come loose and no wires are pinched.

If you have the JBL system, it's in the rear quarter panel on the sub enclosure. The non JBL is in the head-unit.

Not sure...

Not sure how to tell if I have jbl system don't think I have it I see Toyota p1850 on front of radio. If it's n head unit is it a fuse that's blown or is it internal and have to buy a new head unit ?

P1850 is NOT a jbl head unit, its the standard stereo, so amp is built into head unit.

You didn't say what year your 4runner is, nor if you bought it new or used. You also didn't mention if this is something that just started or you've never had rear speakers from day one.

Perhaps someone before you wired something else into the vehicle and when they sold it they just simply pulled their stuff out, leaving the rears dead.

I would use a volt meter and check to see if there is power to them or not.

It could be that the plug for the rear speakers is disconnected. It's a 5-terminal plug on the back of the head unit. Looks like this:

I can tell you from my experience installing speakers in my rear doors that the hatch speakers are connected to the same wiring circuit as the rear doors. When I intercepted the wires for the rear speakers directly behind the head unit and connected them to my amp, both the rear doors and tailgate would play. This would lead me to believe that your problem lies between the rear door speakers and the HU. This would suck, but could it be that the rear L & R channel of the factory amp in the HU burnt out?
